Intel is about to invest $20 billion in the Columbus, Ohio, area in a new chip factory, according to reports. Intel declined to comment further.

According to various reports, the company will employ 3,000 workers. The Columbus Dispatch noted the site for the plan appears to be on 3,100 acres of land in the Columbus suburb of New Albany. Columbus is the site of the Ohio state capital.

The timing of the new construction depends on whether the U.S. House ultimately passes the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act to provide $52 billion in federal investments, according to reports. The Senate passed the legislation in June and Intel has been actively seeking a portion of the funds.

Intel announced its plans for two Arizona fabs and has been pursuing fab expansion in other countries. What is more, the CEO of the company has promised $100 billion for developing new fabs as part of the plan.
