Affected – Devstyler.io https://devstyler.io News for developers from tech to lifestyle Mon, 15 Jan 2024 14:15:02 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.5 Meta Removes Some of the Ad Targeting Options https://devstyler.io/blog/2024/01/15/meta-removes-some-of-the-ad-targeting-options/ Mon, 15 Jan 2024 08:34:02 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=117521 ...]]> Meta will remove or bundle some ad targeting options because they are not widely used, are too detailed, or relate to sensitive content (e.g. health, race, and/or ethnicity topics).

“Starting January 15, 2024, we’re removing or consolidating some detailed targeting options that relate to topics people may perceive as sensitive. Existing ad sets with impacted targeting options will continue to run until March 18 2024, but will require you to update your targeting selections. After this date, we will stop delivering ads to the discontinued detailed targeting options, and impacted ad sets may be paused”, explained by Meta.

The tech giant’s decision comes after the company’s multiple run-ins with improper and even illegal use of ad targeting options.

How will advertisers know that their campaign needs accumulation?

Meta explained that once the change goes into effect, affected advertisers will be alerted via a notification in Ads Manager if any of their campaigns need updating. The company also notes that it will provide alternative targeting recommendations when possible.

But it could have an impact on your process, and how you get your Facebook and IG ads in front of the right people.

Although it’s prohibited to target individuals based on race, targeting users in specific regions might be argued to achieve similar outcomes. Consequently, Meta faces a challenge in completely eliminating all forms of questionable audience targeting. Over time, Meta has enhanced its automated ad targeting tools, reaching a point where providing advertisers with more manual options can be counterproductive.

Meta encourages marketers to leverage its broad targeting and Advantage+ options, placing greater trust in Meta’s systems. This approach often leads to improved performance by exposing ads to users who may not have been manually targeted.

As Meta progressively eliminates various targeting categories, opting for its systematic display options might prove to be a more advantageous strategy. Eventually, it appears that relying on these systematic options could become the primary choice for brands. Regardless, it’s important to take note of this recent alteration for your Facebook and Instagram ads.

Crisis-Affected Amazon Shifts to Web3 https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/14/crisis-affected-amazon-shifts-to-web3/ Tue, 14 Feb 2023 09:26:29 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=101188 ...]]> Not to be affected by the next economic downturn,Amazon is making its way to web3. In the first week of February, AWS announced the hiring of senior web3 specialists for the “growing adoption of web3 workloads on AWS,” Analytics Insight reports.

The global downturn has brought AWS to one of its lowest levels in years. In Q4 2022, AWS revenue reached $21.4 billion, but the growth rate was slower compared to the 21.5% and 33% seen in Q3 and Q2, respectively, which was a serious cause for concern.

During Amazon’s earnings call, CEO Andy Jassy noted that the key to improving AWS revenue is using technology more effectively and finding ways to help customers spend less money.

The official website mentioned that AWS has built tools for blockchain companies that want to run “centralized ledger databases that maintain an immutable and cryptographically verifiable record of transactions, or a multi-party, fully-managed blockchain network that helps eliminate intermediaries”.

Amazon’s moves in the web3 space is already seeing pay back in the space with a quarter of all Ethereum nodes running on AWS servers. AWS is also enmeshed with blockchain in other ways – the website stated that a quarter of all Ethereum nodes run on AWS servers themselves.

Microsoft Investigates Multiple Outlook Access Problems https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/07/microsoft-investigates-multiple-outlook-access-problems/ Tue, 07 Feb 2023 15:14:17 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=100556 ...]]> Microsoft said it is investigating problems with its Outlook email service as users encounter issues accessing, sending or searching for emails on the platform.

Late Monday, there were more than 2,000 instances of people reporting problems with Outlook, according to Downdetector.com, which tracks outages by collecting status reports from sources including bugs submitted by users of its platform.

“Users primarily hosted in the North American region attempting to access Outlook.com may be unable to send, receive, or search email. Additional functionality such as Calendar consumed by other services such as Microsoft Teams would also be affected,”

Microsoft said in an update on its status page.

The web monitoring firm showed that reports dropped to 351 incidents of people raising complaints as of 2:10 ET.
A “recent change” led to the issue and the company was working to restart portions of the affected infrastructure in order to restore service, Microsoft said in a tweet.

50,000 British .eu Websites Taken Down Because Of Brexit  https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/01/06/50-000-british-eu-websites-taken-down-because-of-brexit/ Thu, 06 Jan 2022 10:39:37 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=78298 ...]]> Over 48,000 British-held EU Internet domain names were taken offline indefinitely on Monday in the wake of Brexit. Leave.eu was one of the high profile domains affected by the move was

EURid revoked Britons’ right to the domain name citing Brexit as the reason.

The process to remove the domains began following the formal withdrawal of the UK from the European Union in early 2020. To be eligible for a .eu domain, a person must be an EU citizen, a resident in a member state or an organisation established in the Union.

British holders were first notified that they would lose their domain in October 2020. The removal on Monday was the final step in the process.

Any sites that were still not compliant by January 2021 were suspended before finally being revoked this week. The director of the European Centre for International Political Economy Hosuk Lee-Makiyama told  Euronews Next:

“You can really tell the lack of consequential thinking on behalf of the UK. But also on the side of people who are pointing this out almost with schadenfreude against the UK and amongst the people who are advocating for Remain, because actually to require a local presence or citizenship when it comes to domain names is something that we sometimes consider to be a trade barrier.”

On monday EURid released the 48,000 revoked domain names “for general registration on ‘first come, first serve’ basis” by EU citizens or residents.
