Bans – Devstyler.io https://devstyler.io News for developers from tech to lifestyle Fri, 21 Jul 2023 07:12:52 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.5 Netflix With A Ban That Will Drastically Change Account Usage https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/07/21/netflix-with-a-ban-that-will-drastically-change-account-usage/ Fri, 21 Jul 2023 07:12:52 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=109321 ...]]> Netflix has banned free account sharing worldwide, Tech News Space reports. Back in May, the streaming company began warning subscribers about a policy that aims to prevent multiple users from sharing the same account.

Netflix allows you to share your account, but only with people who live in the same household as the user. For example, you can create separate accounts for your kids and parents within the same account and install them on different TVs or computers, but only in the same house. To share an account with people who live elsewhere, you have to pay an extra $7.99 per user. However, this option is not available on Netflix’s cheapest plans. According to a report by analytics company Antenna, the company’s subscribers have started to increase due to Netflix’s stricter policies.

“This is not a one-off event. This is partly due to measures being implemented successively, partly because some users of third-party accounts do not register their own immediately. They’ll be doing it for the next few months, and maybe even longer if we bring something to market that they’re very interested in selling“, said Greg Peters, CEO at the company.

The company found that users of passwords from other people’s accounts who registered their own had the same characteristics as long-term customers, so the company could expect a high retention rate of new subscribers.

Netflix expects growth in paid subscribers in the third quarter to be similar to the second quarter. Revenue growth is projected to accelerate significantly in the fourth quarter as the company’s anti-password efforts gain momentum. Ad revenue growth will also contribute quite a bit of revenue.

European Commission Bans Employees from Using TikTok https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/27/european-commission-bans-employees-from-using-tiktok/ Mon, 27 Feb 2023 10:46:40 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=102189 ...]]> The European Commission has banned its staff from using TikTok, BBC News reports. The measure is aimed at “protecting data and enhancing cyber security”.

The platform is facing accusations of collecting user data and passing it on to the Chinese government. The company insists it operates no differently from other social media.

EU spokeswoman Sonja Gospodinova said that the corporate board of the European Commission, the EU’s executive body, took the decision for security reasons.

“The measure aims to protect the Commission against cybersecurity threats and actions which may be exploited for cyberattacks against the corporate environment of the commission,”

she said.

The ban also means that European Commission staff cannot use TikTok on personal devices where the app is installed.

The Commission claims to have around 32 000 permanent and contract staff. They must remove the application as soon as possible, but no later than 15 March.

For those who do not comply by the deadline, corporate apps – such as the commission’s email and Skype for Business – will no longer be available.

TikTok said the commission’s decision was based on misconceptions about its platform.

“We are disappointed by this decision, which we believe is wrong and based on fundamental misconceptions,”

a spokesperson said.

Last year, TikTok admitted that some officials in China had access to European users’ data.

This is a new stage in the growing tensions between Beijing and the West after accusations surfaced that China deliberately created the platform in order to hinder the mental development of the adolescent generation in the West. This is evidenced by the Chinese version of the app, which, unlike that used around the world, showcases the achievements of school and university students, provides good examples and stimulates the development of society.

Something quite different from the TikTok challenges that Europeans and Americans dare to do, some of which result in deaths.

Beijing Court Announced Bitcoin Mining Contract Invalid https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/16/beijing-court-announced-bitcoin-mining-contract-invalid/ Thu, 16 Dec 2021 12:51:29 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=76835 ...]]> China has declared all cryptocurrency transactions illegal and outlawed crypto mining activities.

The court of Beijing’s Chaoyang District heard a contract dispute over delayed returns from bitcoin mining and ruled that the service contract was “void”, according to a notice from the court On December 15.

Many crypto firms still keep engineering and operational forces in the country while touting services to overseas customers, though China has deemed all crypto transactions, trading and investment illegal.

The country began weighing crypto mining bans as early as 2019 and started to seriously ramp up enforcement in 2021. Virtual currency mining is “energy-intensive, produces high carbon emissions and contributes little to the economy,” said a September notice from the National Development and Reform Commission, China’s state planner, and such activities “should be eliminated.”

The Beijing court said that the signed contract,“is void because it undermines social and public interests.” As such, its related rights and interests “should not be protected by the law” and the parties involved “should bear the consequences” of their actions.
