The company said Altman and the board have reached an agreement for him to return as CEO with a new board to replace the one that removed him on Friday.

Sam Altman’s return is expected to quell tensions within the company, as as we previously informed you over 700 OpenAI employees spoke out against the CEO’s removal and threatened to have theirs stayed if he was not brought back.

The corporate saga of Sam Altman’s firing is one of the most watched and commented upon in tech history.

OpenAI reported in an X post that the new board will be made up of three original members: former Salesforce co-CEO Brett Taylor, former White House counsel and Harvard University president Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo, CEO of the website Quora and a former Facebook employee. “We’re collabbing to iron out the details. Thank you very much for your patience during this process”.

The board members never gave specific details about their decision to remove Altman as CEO, other than their statement Friday saying Sam had not been “consistently candid in communication” with them and as a result they had “lost confidence” in his leadership style.

Altman said in a separate statement on X that he was happy to return as CEO. “i love openai, and everything i’ve done over the past few days has been in service of keeping this team and its mission together”, he wrote.

Altman expressed his anticipation for his return and emphasized the prospect of strengthening the existing partnership with Microsoft, given the newly constituted board. The collaboration between OpenAI and Microsoft is longstanding, marked by Microsoft’s investment in the startup and OpenAI’s utilization of Microsoft’s cloud computing services.

Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, conveyed his optimism about the changes in the OpenAI board, considering it a crucial first step toward achieving more stable, well-informed, and effective governance.

The decision was met with celebration by other OpenAI executives. Mira Murati, who briefly served as interim CEO following Altman’s departure, shared the OpenAI announcement on

Tuesday, accompanied by a simple blue heart emoji.

In a statement released by OpenAI, the company said the board believed Altman had not been consistent in his communications, which the board said had “hindered his ability to exercise his responsibilities.”

Mira Murati, who served as the company’s chief technology officer, will take his place at the company on an interim basis.

“We are grateful for Sam’s many contributions to the founding and growth of OpenAI. At the same time, we believe new leadership is necessary as we move forward. As the leader of the company’s research, product, and safety functions, Mira is exceptionally qualified to step into the role of interim CEO. We have the utmost confidence in her ability to lead OpenAI during this transition period”, the company wrote in a statement.

Furthermore, Greg Brockman, the president and co-founder of OpenAI, will relinquish his current role as chairman of the board. However, he will continue to serve in his capacity at the company and will report directly to Murati, as stated by the company.

He graduated from the University of Mumbai with a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering and then earned his master’s degree in computer science and engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Eswaran was RingCentral’s president and COO before becoming CEO of Veeam. Before that, he worked for Microsoft, where he was responsible for the Enterprise Commercial and Public Sector business internationally.

Before joining Microsoft, Eswaran was the Executive Vice President of SAP. He formerly held the posts of Vice President of Global Software Services at HP, Vice President of Global Professional Services at Vignette, and Senior Manager at Braun Consulting.

According to a press release, Veeam, which has over 400,000 customers and has exceeded $1 billion in ARR this year, is at the centre of the data ecosystem, orchestrating data flow, management, and protection in every environment and across Hybrid Cloud. Eswaran’s vision, leadership, and track record of driving growth are widely known throughout the company.

Eswaran stated that Veeam is a one-of-a-kind firm that is developing substantially faster than the market. He is excited to be joining such a brilliant team at this exciting point in its evolution.  He continued with saying that data is exploding and has become one of the most valuable assets for all companies.

Choosing low-code software for data science means that we investigate a common ground between the data scientists and the business unit (end-users). It’s investing in more efficient working groups and in knowledge sharing and upskilling. Most importantly, it’s investing in getting data to quickly power many more decisions in your organization.

The more time it takes for anyone in the organization to understand the value of data, the harder it is for the data science team to work. They waste time explaining, documenting, and advocating for their work, while projects get delayed, blocked, or canceled.

On the other side, business users are not exposed to enough problems to know what questions to ask or whether this function has value at all.

When adopted across the enterprise, a low-code tool has two positive effects. First, more people in the organization understand what can be done with data and, therefore, know better what questions can be asked of it. Second, more people in the organization are empowered to perform basic data science tasks themselves.

With a low-code tool, we’re no longer only talking about a tool that’s efficient for data scientists to do their jobs. We’re now talking about a tool that advances basic data understanding in the enterprise and makes the use of the most complex technologies transparent.

To fully demonstrate the effects of understanding data science, it’s helpful to think about it spread along two axes:

Horizontally: When teams outside of the data science group “get” the work that the data science teams do and how they prioritize projects. It includes sales and marketing groups, finance groups, operations teams, etc. Teams are often the ones actually closest to the data that the company gathers and thus well-positioned to ask questions of it. The more they work with efficient data science teams, the more bespoke their questions get.

Vertically: Similarly, data will start to be understood by people at various levels. Not just the data team, but the team lead, the manager, the VP, the CxO, all the way up to the CEO and the board of directors. Since these people sit far away from the data entry points, they need to find a way to stay connected with what’s happening in the data trenches.

Involving more people in the organization to “do” data science also has an effect on the organization. By upskilling makers, an organization all of a sudden 100x’d its data science bandwidth.

A Ph.D. or folks with 10+ years of experience in data mining are not the only ones who can derive insights from data. Some might call this data literacy — or creating “citizen data scientists.”

A pervasive understanding of how the data science platform works won’t really lead to a clean cut of who does what data science work. The use cases for data science far exceed the bandwidth of any enterprise data science team, and even the simplest automation and ETL projects take months to come true. Here, the real blocker to data science success is a lack of data understanding.

Low-code is not just well-suited for data science programming, it’s well-suited for bringing the business and the data science team closer together.

Growing slowly but steadily, Embark is an autonomous vehicle company that has already scored important wins and looks to be moving fast in the right direction.

Founded by experts in robotics, Embark claims to be the longest-running self-driving truck program in the U.S., launched in 2016, when self-driving technology wasn’t so popular in the trucking industry. The company’s strategy was to focus exclusively on autonomous software and associated services, which would be universally compatible with most trucks.

So far, the company’s product range includes the Embark Driver, an advanced automated driving software that was specifically developed for trucks, the Embark Universal Interface that is used to integrate autonomous technology onto trucks, a fleet monitoring and remote-assist system.

The startup recently announced that it will start using the Nvidia Drive autonomous vehicle compute platform to power EUI and its Driver software. According to Ajith Dasari, Head of Hardware Platform at Embark, the high performance and safety standards that are required by the autonomous software and interface, can only be met with the help of “an enormous amount of computing power in our trucks”.

Known as the first scalable AI platform that combines hardware and software for the production of automated vehicles (including deep learning, surround vision and advanced sensors), Nvidia Drive was a natural choice.

The flexible EUI was specifically designed to allow carriers to select their preferred OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) when installing the self-driving software. At the moment, the EUI is compatible with four major OEMs – Freightliner, Navistar International, PACCAR, and Volvo – which bring most of the Class-8 trucks on U.S. roads today.

The partnership with Nvidia represents another significant step for Embark. A couple of months ago, the startup announced that it became a publicly listed company, after signing a definitive business combination agreement with Northern Genesis Acquisition Corp. II. Also, its Board of Directors was joined by former Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao.
