With this, it closed a deal it struck last year to back the startup and expand the partnership between the two companies.

Amazon’s total investment in Anthropic is worth $4 billion.

According to sources, Amazon had until the end of the first quarter to decide whether to increase its investment to a maximum of $4 billion, and a few months later – the investment is already in place.

Anthropic’s AI models are one of very few that compete at the highest levels of capability, but are available at enterprise scale for internal deployment or in consumer-facing applications.

OpenAI’s GPT AI chatbots and Google’s Gemini are well known among tech circles, but newcomers like Mistral could very well threaten the AI dominants.

They identify 2021-founded Anthropic as one of OpenAI’s biggest competitors, attracting billions in funding.

Anthropic has relationships with big tech companies like Google, which joined a $450 million funding round in May led by Spark Capital. Google and Amazon Web Services are partners in Anthropic’s cloud computing.

Amazon Launches Business Chatbot with AI https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/11/29/amazon-launches-business-chatbot-with-ai/ Wed, 29 Nov 2023 10:25:13 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=114931 ...]]> Amazon plans to launch a business chatbot named Q, powered by generative artificial intelligence, Sky News reported. This was revealed during the AWS re:Invent 2023 conference in Las Vegas.

Amazon’s decision to create a business chatbot is actually the answer the company is giving to competitors who have released chatbots that have caught the attention of the public.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to generate a lot of public and business interest in AI-generating tools that can write emails, marketing messages, essays and other human-like text. This attention initially gave an edge to OpenAI’s main partner and financial sponsor, Microsoft, which has the rights to the underlying technology behind ChatGPT and is using it to create its own AI-generating tools, known as Copilot.

But it has also prompted competitors such as Google to release their own versions.

Amazon said Q will be able to synthesize content as well as streamline daily communications and assist employees with tasks.

Companies will have the option to integrate Q with their proprietary data and systems, enabling them to enjoy a personalized experience that is more pertinent. The technology is currently accessible for preview.

And although Amazon is the dominant cloud computing provider, the company is not yet seen as a leader in AI research.

A recent Stanford University index that measured the transparency of the 10 major AI models, including Amazon’s Titan, ranked Amazon last.

Goodbye, Teams: Microsoft Suspends Access to Teams and Office in Europe? https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/09/04/goodbye-teams-microsoft-suspends-access-to-teams-and-office-in-europe/ Mon, 04 Sep 2023 07:26:11 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=110652 ...]]> Tech giant Microsoft will stop offering Teams app services as well as the Office suite in Europe to avoid antitrust penalties from regulators, Ap News reports.

The company also said it would take steps to make it easier for competing products to work with its software.

“Today we are announcing proactive changes that we hope will start to address these concerns in a meaningful way, even while the European Commission’s investigation continues and we cooperate with it,” Microsoft’s vice president of European government affairs, Nanna-Louise Linde, said in a blog post.

News of Microsoft’s decision comes a month after the European Union’s Executive Commission launched a formal investigation into concerns that tying Teams to Office gives the company an unfair advantage over competitors.

“We take note of Microsoft’s announcement. We have no further comment to make”, a Commission spokesperson said.

This is all due to an alert filed in 2020 by Slack Technologies, the reason for the investigation.

According to Slack, Microsoft is abusing its dominant market position to eliminate competition – in violation of EU laws – by illegally combining Teams with the Office suite, which includes Word, Excel and Outlook.

Linde also said the changes in question were made to be able to address EU concerns that customers should be able to buy Office without Teams at a lower price and that “we need to do more to facilitate interoperability” with competing communication and collaboration software.

The changes will take effect on Oct. 1 in the 30-nation European Economic Area and Switzerland.

Microsoft is not the only company under pressure from Brussels because of concerns about their market dominance. The Commission is also investigating Google, Apple, Amazon and Facebook and Instagram.

Zuckerberg Is More Ready Than Ever For The Fight, Suggest A Date, Musk Is Silent https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/08/09/zuckerberg-is-more-ready-than-ever-for-the-fight-suggest-a-date-musk-is-silent/ Wed, 09 Aug 2023 07:28:12 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=109899 ...]]> Mark Zuckerberg said he is “not holding breath” because of an upcoming cage fight with his biggest rival Elon Musk, the BBC reports.

In a post on the new social media app Threads, Meta’s owner said he had suggested the clash take place on August 26.

In a post on X (ex. Twitter), Elon says he’s been training “all day”, but Zuckerberg was quick to refute his claims, writing that Mr. Musk had not yet confirmed.

The two became direct competitors in July with the release of Threads.

Musk cast further doubt over the upcoming fight, saying the exact date was still in flux. He also said he is likely to need surgery on his neck and upper back.

The two social media moguls have not stopped challenging each other in recent months. On Sunday, Elon said their fight would be streamed live on his social media platform X.

He reaffirmed that all proceeds from the match will go to veterans charities.

Microsoft Prepares Strong Punch After Finding Out About PlayStation’s Exclusive Game https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/06/26/microsoft-prepares-strong-punch-after-finding-out-about-playstation-s-exclusive-game/ Mon, 26 Jun 2023 06:23:29 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=108444 ...]]> Xbox chief Phil Spencer has revealed one of the main reasons for the acquisition of Bethesda’s parent company ZeniMax: the PlayStation-exclusive game Starfield, reports The Verge. During the hearing in the FTC’s case against Microsoft, Phil revealed that Sony regularly pays its competitors to leapfrog Xbox, and that Microsoft believes that if it owns Bethesda, it will be able to compete decently.

The acquisition of ZeniMax Media cost Microsoft $7.5 billion. In closing the deal, Microsoft promised Xbox and PC exclusive games and has so far delivered Redfall and Starfield will debut on September 6. Bethesda’s upcoming Indiana Jones game is also an Xbox and PC exclusive.

“When we acquired ZeniMax one of the impetus for that is that Sony had done a deal for Deathloop and Ghostwire… to pay Bethesda to not ship those games on Xbox. So the discussion about Starfield when we heard that Starfield was potentially also going to end up skipping Xbox, we can’t be in a position as a third-place console where we fall further behind on our content ownership so we’ve had to secure content to remain viable in the business.”

said Spencer.

Buying Bethesda and acquiring Activision Blizzard, according to the Xbox boss is a way to compete with Sony. The proposed deal with Activision Blizzard is valued at $68.7 billion.

Google Asks Employees to Test Potential ChatGPT Competitors https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/03/google-asks-employees-to-test-potential-chatgpt-competitors/ Fri, 03 Feb 2023 07:44:40 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=100045 ...]]> Google employees are testing potential competitors to ChatGPT, including its own chatbot “Apprentice Bard” – CNBC reported, citing sources and internal communication.

The bot is said to use Google’s own language technology called LaMDA, or Language Model for Dialogue Applications.

This comes just a few weeks after the tech giant’s leadership announced that it had issued a “code red” for the rise of ChatGPT, which has been making waves lately for being able to generate human-like written text.

Apprentice Bard appears to work in a similar way to ChatGPT, as users can ask a question in a dialog box and get an answer, according to CNBC. Users can also give feedback about the answer to the bot.

When asked if there would be further layoffs at Google – which laid off 12,000 employees in January – Apprentice Bard responded that it was “unlikely” there would be another round of layoffs in 2023, CNBC reported, citing an internally circulated example.

Publicly available information shows that Alphabet’s – Google’s parent company – revenue grew 41% in 2021, while Alphabet’s Class A shares have fallen 32% since January 2022.

In addition to Apprentice Bard, Google is testing other AI-powered products, including a search page.

“We believe AI is a foundational and transformative technology that is hugely beneficial to people, businesses and communities, and as outlined in our AI principles, we must consider the broader societal impacts these innovations can have.”

said Lily Lin, Google spokesperson.

Google did not comment specifically on the projects reported by CNBC, but told Insider that it has long focused on developing and deploying AI to improve people’s lives.

An AI coding system has been developed by Alphabet https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/02/03/an-ai-coding-system-has-been-developed-by-alphabet/ Thu, 03 Feb 2022 15:10:59 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=80359 ...]]> DeepMind gave life to an artificial intelligence system – AlphaCode. It is said to “write computer programs at a competitive level.” This makes it the first AI code generation ever whose performance is competitive enough in programming competitions.

The company was acquired by Google in 2014. It is based in London with research centers in Canada, France, and the US. In a blog post, DeepMind says:

“AlphaCode achieved an estimated rank within the top 54% of participants in programming competitions by solving new problems that require a combination of critical thinking, logic, algorithms, coding, and natural language understanding.”

The new system works with language models which are built on transformers. DeepMind shared that they have selected 10 recent contests, every one of them is newer than their own training data. The company also commented:

“Overall, AlphaCode placed at approximately the level of the median competitor. Although far from winning competitions, this result represents a substantial leap in AI problem-solving capabilities and we hope that our results will inspire the competitive programming community.”

AlphaCode’s performance is hosted on Codeforces – a platform that hosts competitions that are very attractive to participants who are coming with the aim to test their coding skills.

Founder of Codeforces, Mike Mirzayanov, admitted that those results outstripped his expectations.
