Significance

This change marks the first major alteration to the Windows keyboard layout in 30 years. It represents a significant shift in hardware design, reflecting the growing integration of AI into everyday technology.

The Copilot Key

The Copilot key is a symbol of Microsoft’s vision for an AI-integrated future, promising a more intuitive, efficient, and creative computing experience for users worldwide.

One of the most important updates is early access to Unity Muse, an AI-powered suite designed to simplify content creation for game developers.

Muse offers features like Muse Chat, which allows developers to get answers and resources in Unity and receive usable code. Additionally, Muse Sprite generates 2D sprites and multiple variations, and Muse Texture creates high-quality 2D and 3D ready textures. These features are powered by a purpose-built deep learning model that ensures data integrity.

Unity Muse is in the early access phase, while Unity Sentis, designed for seamlessly integrating intricate AI data models into Unity Runtime, is currently in open beta. The official release for Unity Sentis is anticipated to coincide with the launch of Unity 6 in 2024.

This program is available for Unity Pro, Enterprise, and Industry subscribers, facilitating the development of spatial applications tailored for Apple Vision Pro.

The use of artificial intelligence in the creation of movies and TV shows – to write scripts, generate actor likenesses, or reduce the cost of creative work – has been the most contentious topic in negotiations between the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) and Sag and the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

The writers went on strike in May, with many popular actors including Tom Cruise and George Clooney joining earlier this month. It’s the first joint strike since the 1960s and threatens to change Hollywood forever.

The post, first reported by The Intercept, is something new that aims to “increase the use of our machine learning platform,” billed as “the foundation of all this innovation.” The post, however, lists vague qualifications related to machine learning, but hints at the company’s more far-reaching goals for artificial intelligence in “all areas of business.” A separate “machine learning” section on the company’s website says it will use AI to “shape our catalogue of films and TV shows by learning the features that make content successful”, and to “optimise the production of original films and TV shows”.

This isn’t the only new AI position sought by Netflix. The Intercept reported that the company is also looking to hire a technical director for generative AI at its game studio for a pay of up to $650,000 a year. Artificial intelligence can create text, images and video from input that can be used to create original content or for advertising purposes.

Earlier this month, Netflix premiered the new Spanish dating reality series “Deep Fake Love,” in which scans of participants’ faces and bodies are used to create “deepfake” simulations of themselves, and the company’s games division uses AI to create narratives and dialogue.

However, according to the AMPTP, the breakthrough of Artificial Intelligence across the film industry will change the perception of cinema forever and leave thousands of talented actors out of work, including celebrity darlings around the world.

The perfect gift – a poem, but not from your half
According to a recent report by cybersecurity company McAfee’s “Modern Love Research Report,” this Valentine’s Day, one in four, that’s 26% of people, plan to use artificial intelligence to write notes, letters or songs for their loved ones. Of these, 30% were men, who were found to be more likely to use AI for this purpose, compared to women (22%). Well, as mentioned above, we don’t want to divide the sexes or instill tension between them, but the results wouldn’t surprise us, in the nice and joking sense of course.

None of Sonos’ main rivals in smart speakers released new audio hardware during the holiday quarter. And Apple’s second-generation HomePod appeared after it had already finished. But the company doesn’t seem as impressed with the devices Apple is offering.

Discounts on Sonos products during the holidays helped the company deliver strong earnings and beat Wall Street expectations for its fiscal first quarter. This is the first time Sonos has been able to offer these promotions in three years.

“We’ve gone through fiscal Q1, which is the height of the consumer electronics and audio season and, you know, it was… we’ve seen some of the traditional players go heavy discounting and, kind of like a traditional playbook for C.E. that, you know, we’ve always fought against and don’t really believe in. And then, you know, the big tech players, we just haven’t seen them active and we haven’t seen them, you know, doing anything interesting.”

Google’s most recent home audio product is the aging Nest Audio, and Amazon’s fall 2022 hardware event went light on smart speakers: the company introduced a refreshed Echo Dot and added a new white color option for the top-of-the-line Echo Studio. “I just feel like there’s others that are probably questioning their investments in this area, and we are investing in four new categories. We are going to raise the bar in our existing categories. I mean, we’ve got a lot going on,”

Sonos has said it will release a product in the first of those new categories sometime in 2023.

The company has placed greater emphasis on bundles that increase the percentage of households using multiple products. The average number of products for each Sonos household is currently 2.98. Sonos sees a $5 billion revenue opportunity if it can successfully transition single-product customers to a multi-device lifestyle.
