Disappointment – Devstyler.io https://devstyler.io News for developers from tech to lifestyle Fri, 15 Sep 2023 04:48:55 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.5 Streaming Is Getting More Expensive: The Platforms That Still Offer Affordable Services https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/09/15/streaming-is-getting-more-expensive-the-platforms-that-still-offer-affordable-services/ Fri, 15 Sep 2023 04:48:55 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=111046 ...]]> Recently, it has become a trend for almost every streaming service to increase their subscription fees every few months. Paramount Plus and HBO Max have already made this change, and Disney Plus and Hulu with Live TV will follow suit as early as next month when they plan to increase their service prices.

However, do not be in a hurry to be disappointed. It turns out that some of these services are currently offering promotions that can help you save money on a monthly or annual subscription. What’s more, some of them are available to both new and regular subscribers, which, let’s face it, is rare in the streaming realm. The Verge brings us a short but quality list of platforms that offer interesting content at a good price.

Disney Plus and ESPN Plus
Disney offers a three-month Hulu package with live TV for $49.99 per month. The contract is through Oct. 11 – a day before Hulu with Live TV jumps to $76.99 per month – and is open to new subscribers and those who haven’t subscribed to Hulu in the last month.

Hulu with Live TV gives you access to ad-supported Hulu, Disney Plus and ESPN Plus, in addition to more than 90 live sports, news and entertainment channels. That means you can watch NFL games and stream shows like Futurama and Disney’s newest Star Wars show, Ahsoka. You can also record live shows with an unlimited DVR, as well as download content for offline viewing.

Disney Plus
For those of you who only want to subscribe to Disney Plus, new and eligible returning subscribers can get three months of Disney Plus (with ads) for $1.99 per month as long as they sign up before September 21. Considering that the plan with ads normally costs $7.99 per month, the current promotion amounts to an $18 savings, meaning you essentially get two months of service for free.

This plan will give you access to some of Disney Plus’ most popular names like “Ahsoka,” the upcoming season of “Loki,” “The Little Mermaid,” and the new season of “I Am Groot.” You’ll also be able to watch National Geographic and Pixar content, including the recently released movie Elemental.

Paramount Plus and Showtime
Paramount Plus offers 50 percent off one year of the ad-supported Paramount Plus Essential tier and the Paramount Plus with Showtime plan when you use promo code FALL.

Both plans provide access to Paramount Plus content such as Dungeons & Dragons, Top Gun: Maverick and shows from the Star Trek series such as Strange New Worlds. There are no commercials on Paramount Plus with Showtime, with the exception of live content. This plan also allows you to watch a host of Showtime programming, including Yellowjackets, Twin Peaks, Homeland and Dexter. Popular names that excite viewers around the world.

A Twist in the Lay Off Trend: Amazon Brings Back the Layoff Employee? https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/05/23/a-twist-in-the-lay-off-trend-amazon-brings-back-the-layoff-employee/ Tue, 23 May 2023 08:30:41 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=106619 ...]]> In January this year, an Amazon employee was laid off, but just a few months later made a surprise announcement on LinkedIn that he was rejoining the same company team, People Matters reports. Paige Cipriani shared on the social platform about her recent reassignment, revealing that she has returned as a product manager on the social marketing team where she previously worked.

“I am so happy to announce that on Monday I started back at Amazon on the Social Marketing team, the same team I was on before being laid off in January. I was re-hired, as a Product Marketing Manager, in a newly opened position so will be focusing on a different line of business than before. I feel so thankful to be back on such a great team and am looking forward to what this new (yet familiar) journey holds,” read her post.

Although the current occasion for a public statement is in a positive direction, a few months before, the Amazon employee shared his disappointment with the company’s decision and its layoff.

“Unfortunately, yesterday I woke up to the news that I was one of 18,000 employees laid off from Amazon. It is incredibly hard and I am still trying to process it all. I am sad because my journey at the company had just begun and I was working with some of the most incredibly smart people in the industry. I am still so grateful for the time I have spent there, the connections I have made and everything I learned. I am officially #opentowork looking for Social Marketing roles immediately. Thank you in advance for any connections, advice or opportunities you can offer! Feel free to message me here with leads”,

Shared by Paige Cipriani on LinkedIn in January.

Will the lay off trend turn positive?
Amazon laid off 500 of its employees in India recently. The layoffs affected various sectors of the company, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources (HR) and support functions. We remind you that in March Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced the layoff of 9,000 employees worldwide, and in January the company also made layoffs that affected 18,000 employees worldwide.

Disappointment and Disapproval: Designer McGee Retires from the Game Industry https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/04/11/disappointment-and-disapproval-designer-mcgee-retires-from-the-game-industry/ Tue, 11 Apr 2023 08:37:27 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=104370 ...]]> American McGee has announced its retirement from the game industry, Game Developer reports. The reason for this is Electronic Arts’ rejected proposal for a third game in its “Alice” series.

“I have no other ideas or energy left to apply toward getting a new Alice game made. Nor do I have any interest in pursuing new game ideas within the context of the current environment for game development”

said McGee.

Electronic Arts owns the license for the Alice series, which consists of American McGee’s 2000 game Alice and its 2011 sequel Alice: Madness Returns. After the release of the latter version, the designer tried for more than a decade to realize a third title (known as Alice: Asylum), but without success.

According to McGee, the publisher has dropped Alice: Asylum due to “internal analysis of intellectual property, market conditions and production proposal details”.

“At this point, we have exhausted every option for getting a new Alice game made. With those answers from EA, there is no other way forward with the project”

he continued.

In 2012. McGee said he wanted the third game to be in the form of an episodic title, then known as Alice: Otherlands. Later, in 2017 and now called Asylum, he revealed that he had made a licensing proposal for EA to consider, which included a design plan and production plan drawn up in collaboration with Virtuous Games.

McGee will continue to focus on his family and his company Mysterious, which he founded with his wife. The company publishes artwork and clothing based on his work.
