How to Create a More Pleasant Working Atmosphere in TECH Office https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/10/30/how-to-create-a-more-pleasant-working-atmosphere-in-tech-office/ Mon, 30 Oct 2023 11:41:20 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=112891 ...]]> Happy employees drive success in large corporations and small businesses alike

In the tech business world, the secret to success lies in employee satisfaction. Recent studies highlight the key role of employee happiness, showing that it has a significant impact on motivation, productivity and innovation. The extra effort that happy employees put in is not an obligation, but a genuine desire to contribute even more to the company they work for. Remarkably, studies show that employees who are happy and satisfied in their jobs are 48.4% more likely to stay with the same company and work for its success, giving their all.

On the other hand, the consequences of unhappy and dissatisfied employees are a serious problem for businesses. Employee dissatisfaction leads to annual financial losses of a staggering $300 billion, according to a study, which is attributed to increased sick leave, absenteeism and an increase in workplace errors.

In a fast-paced industry like tech, a pleasant work atmosphere is key to the well-being of a company’s employees and the sense of comfort they feel despite being away from home. And when an employee feels comfortable and “in place,” they are productive, motivated and full of interesting ideas and a desire to work.

Today we will introduce you to the top 5 ideas on how to create a more pleasant working atmosphere in your tech office according to Hiveage.

How to Create a More Pleasant Working Atmosphere in TECH Office

Bring in natural lighting to the work environment
Not only does natural lighting look better, but there is a strong connection between natural light in the workplace and employees’ quality of sleep and energy. Neurology researchers at Northwestern University found that people who work in offices with windows receive 173 percent more white light (i.e. light from the sun) during work hours and sleep an extra 46 minutes every night. Workers were better rested and therefore in a better frame of mind.

Create a clean and comfortable office space
It doesn’t take a psychologist to tell you that when you are in an area that is attractive, comfortable, and pleasant, you feel better. This is true of both the home and the work environment, so be sure to clear away clutter and broken equipment, and mend flickering light bulbs and temperamental air conditioning or heating units. And though it may not seem like a big deal, invest in new, ergonomic furniture, plants, updated equipment, and quality coffee and snacks. Your staff will not only appreciate that their well-being is important to you, but they’ll be energetically affected by the space in a positive way.

Provide quiet rooms for employees
Open office layouts are a necessity in many cases, but you should consider providing a few areas where employees can retreat if they need quiet or solitude to concentrate on a difficult project. It can cut down on the stress and interruptions, which improves mood and productivity. You might also think about providing nap rooms, for which Google (among others) is famous. Studies show that a 20 or 30 minute power nap is better than a cup of coffee to boost energy for those people who regularly work long hours, engage in intensive, complicated work, or travel to out-of-town bureaus.

Have an open-door policy for team members
Employees report higher job satisfaction and are more likely to stay at a job where they feel listened to and appreciated. One way to do this is to ensure transparency between managers and workers because conflicts often surface when employees feel left out of the loop or like they are merely indentured laborers. Make it known that you are always available for questions, comments, and concerns. And “open door” should be taken literally—keeping the door open encourages friendly communication.

Equip the office with recreational areas for employees
If you can, make room for outdoor hoops or an indoor ping pong table. Team members will enjoy having a place to get a little exercise or to blow off some steam between tasks. Plus, friendly games with others can lead to better rapport and team cohesion.

Losing Your Job During Motherhood: The Tech Industry and the Promise to Women It Broke https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/07/31/losing-your-job-during-motherhood-the-tech-industry-and-the-promise-to-women-it-broke/ Mon, 31 Jul 2023 07:44:27 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=109588 ...]]> Slate tells us the story of Nadine Selim, the woman who gets her dream job while pregnant. A moment when Selim feels that everything in her life is falling into place in the right way. But it’s not long before her happiness is marred by a work email informing her that she’s been made redundant.

The Beginning – When everything finally falls into place
When Nadine Selim interviews for her dream position at Amazon, she hesitates until the last minute whether to accept it and leave her old job, which is just as good as the future offer. During this same time, Nadine is about to have one of her most exciting moments – becoming a mother. Yet she gets the job at Amazon and leaves her old position.

The tech industry and the support it provides to expectant parents
Back then, she still had no worries about being pregnant and the likelihood of losing her job when she gave birth, as she knew about the good maternity leave benefits offered by the tech giants. Benefits that many believe are partly designed to attract more members of the fairer sex into the male-dominated tech industry. And when the most long-awaited and emotional moment came for Selim, and every woman and mother-to-be – she stepped away from work for a while on maternity leave.

The email that clouds the happiness of a mother
But just a few weeks after that, Selim received an email saying she was being laid off. And so she became one of the hundreds of thousands of employees who were laid off by companies that offered good working conditions.

The tech industry and the promise it broke?
According to Slate, among the mass layoffs that have taken place in the tech sector in recent months, the number of laid-off women is quite large, and even many of them have received the unpleasant memo while on maternity leave, and Selim is one of them.

Some time ago, we told you about the story of a man, again an employee at a large tech company, who lost his job during fatherhood. The tech industry doesn’t seem to take into account the social situation of its employees, and the redundancy trend, which is slightly contained for now, threatens every single member of it, whether they are in a high position, have a lot of experience or have just become a parent and need support.

A Twist in the Lay Off Trend: Amazon Brings Back the Layoff Employee? https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/05/23/a-twist-in-the-lay-off-trend-amazon-brings-back-the-layoff-employee/ Tue, 23 May 2023 08:30:41 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=106619 ...]]> In January this year, an Amazon employee was laid off, but just a few months later made a surprise announcement on LinkedIn that he was rejoining the same company team, People Matters reports. Paige Cipriani shared on the social platform about her recent reassignment, revealing that she has returned as a product manager on the social marketing team where she previously worked.

“I am so happy to announce that on Monday I started back at Amazon on the Social Marketing team, the same team I was on before being laid off in January. I was re-hired, as a Product Marketing Manager, in a newly opened position so will be focusing on a different line of business than before. I feel so thankful to be back on such a great team and am looking forward to what this new (yet familiar) journey holds,” read her post.

Although the current occasion for a public statement is in a positive direction, a few months before, the Amazon employee shared his disappointment with the company’s decision and its layoff.

“Unfortunately, yesterday I woke up to the news that I was one of 18,000 employees laid off from Amazon. It is incredibly hard and I am still trying to process it all. I am sad because my journey at the company had just begun and I was working with some of the most incredibly smart people in the industry. I am still so grateful for the time I have spent there, the connections I have made and everything I learned. I am officially #opentowork looking for Social Marketing roles immediately. Thank you in advance for any connections, advice or opportunities you can offer! Feel free to message me here with leads”,

Shared by Paige Cipriani on LinkedIn in January.

Will the lay off trend turn positive?
Amazon laid off 500 of its employees in India recently. The layoffs affected various sectors of the company, such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), human resources (HR) and support functions. We remind you that in March Amazon CEO Andy Jassy announced the layoff of 9,000 employees worldwide, and in January the company also made layoffs that affected 18,000 employees worldwide.

Apple to Report Its First Revenue Decline in History https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/05/05/apple-to-report-its-first-revenue-decline-in-history/ Fri, 05 May 2023 07:31:35 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=105787 ...]]> Apple has seen a slowdown in hardware sales among its flagship Mac computers and iPhone smartphones, but the company has good news in contrast, as it will see a surge in its services division, reports TheDesk.net.

The figures are part of Apple’s second fiscal quarter earnings, which cover the first three months of the calendar year. The tech giant’s total revenue for the quarter was $94.8 billion, down 3% compared to the second quarter of 2022, and it cited lower electronics sales as part of the reason.

Apple, which so far hasn’t had massive employee layoffs, will report its first-ever decline in revenue across all product lines, even as demand and production for iPhones in China recovered from the disruption caused by last year’s pandemic.

The Difference
Apple’s sales of computers, phones, tablets, watches and other hardware fell to $73.9 billion in the quarter from $77.5 billion reported in 2022. The sales slowdown in the first three months is not unusual as consumers cut back on spending after the holidays.

Apple’s iPhone line is still the best-selling product with over $51.3 billion in sales in the second quarter of 2023, up from $50.7 billion last year. Mac sales declined to $7.12 billion, down about $3 billion from 2022.

“We are pleased to report an all-time record in services and a March quarter record for iPhone despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, and to have our installed base of active devices reach an all-time high. We continue to invest for the long term and lead with our values, including making major progress toward building carbon neutral products and supply chains by 2030”,

Said in a statement Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple.

Although the company posted the first revenue decline in its history, the forecasts and reactions are not black-eyed. Luca Maestri, who is Apple’s CFO, said there was an improvement in the company’s overall business performance compared to the December quarter. In the last three months, the company has been able to return over $23 billion to its shareholders.

Paris Startup Primo Receives $3.4 M. Aimed at Solving SME IT Problems https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/04/20/paris-startup-primo-receives-3-4-m-aimed-at-solving-sme-it-problems/ Thu, 20 Apr 2023 09:04:10 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=105010 ...]]> Paris-based startup Primo has raised $3.4 million in seed stage funding, aiming to solve IT problems affecting small and medium-sized enterprises, tech eu reports. The company will use most of the capital to expand its engineering team and provide answers to all possible queries related to IT issues, including application management, devices, security and even people.

The company’s idea is backed by Headline and Global Founders Capital, as well as a stellar list of angel investors including Arthur Waller (founder of Pennylane) and others.

The startup’s desire is to solve an old problem that too often companies don’t even notice or consider until it becomes a real challenge: IT services and their management. Much of the “technical support” falls into the hands of engineers and/or developers, and this is far from the best use of their skills, energy and time.

“Consider the current process for onboarding a new hire. First, you buy a laptop from Apple. Plus keyboard, mouse, and screen from Amazon. Then manually add the employee to your HR software, the “fleet tracking” spreadsheet, the outsourced device management system (MDM) of choice, and so on. This means inconsistencies, overwork, and loads of admin. Traditional IT Management is expensive and no longer fits the needs of modern companies. That’s why we are thinking of Primo as an “operating system for IT.”

explained Primo co-founder Nicolas Nallet.

Primo’s core product centres around four key axes:

– Deploy: a free tier that allows employers to equip their teams with the hardware equipment they need on a flexible lease basis.

– Configure: an integrated mobile device management solution that allows for remote management, monitoring, configuration, and security of devices.

– Support: IT support + insurance. Primo directly handles all computer incidents.

– Secure: Antivirus solutions and end-point detection and response services that cover all external security needs.

“If there’s something that SMBs don’t have the time or resources to solve, that’s IT. Primo’s founding team, with their extensive product experience, is uniquely positioned to solve this issue for millions of SMBs. They are approaching the space with the right motivation and bringing a fresh, modern experience to the market with no equal in Europe”,

Angel investor Bill Tyndall, co-founder of New York-based unicorn company Electric.ai, which manages IT and IT support for teams via a SaaS app, commented.

According to the company, by the end of the year it will count 300 customers, including Dalma, Beebs and Cohort and, if all goes to plan, will result in an ARR of $2 million.

Salesforce Plans to Lay Off about 10% of its Staff https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/01/05/salesforce-plans-to-lay-off-about-10-of-its-staff/ Thu, 05 Jan 2023 09:20:40 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=97665 ...]]> Salesforce Inc. plans to lay off about 10% of its staff as part of a restructuring plan, Market Watch reports.

The company will also divest some real estate and cut back on office space. The goal of the plan is to reduce operating costs, increase operating margins and drive “profitable growth.”

Salefforce CRM, +3.57% joins a number of other tech companies that have admitted in recent months that they have grown too fast for the current environment.

“As our earnings accelerated during the pandemic, we hired too many people, leading to the economic downturn we now face, and I take responsibility for that,”

co-CEO Mark Benioff said in a letter to employees that was also filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

On investor day in September, the company had about 80,000 employees.

Salesforce expects that it will incur $1.4-2.1 billion in expenses related to the plan, of which $800-1 billion is expected to be incurred in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2023, which is underway. The majority of the total expected spending is related to employee transition, layoffs, employee benefits or stock-based compensation, Market Watch writes.

The company anticipates that it will be done with the staffing elements of the restructuring plan by the end of fiscal 2024 and done with the real-estate efforts during fiscal 2026.

Mizuho’s Jordan Klein, a desk-based analyst associated with the sales team and not the research unit, said in a note that the restructuring was a positive step toward helping to “rebuild investor credibility and trust and one that showed that Benioff “is not all about growth at any cost.

Apple’s next Move is to Set up a team to Design Wireless Chips In-House https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/17/apple-s-next-move-is-to-set-up-a-team-to-design-wireless-chips-in-house/ Fri, 17 Dec 2021 16:08:14 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=77034 ...]]> It’s not a secret that Apple uses its own A-series and M-series chipsets on iPhones and Macs. However, the company relies on third-party manufacturers such as Broadcom and Skyworks for most of the other chips on these devices. It seems that this is about to change.

A report from Bloomberg says that Apple is now working on setting up a new team that is supposed to design more chip components in-house. That means that components from third-party manufacturers will no longer be necessary. What is more, Apple is hiring engineers for its new office in Irvine, South California. The new members of the team need to be experienced in modem chips and other wireless semiconductors.

According to Bloomberg, Apple’s decision to set up a new office to design wireless chips is “part of a broader strategy of expanding satellite offices, letting the tech giant target engineering hotbeds and attract employees who might not want to work at its home base in Silicon Valley.”

Furthermore, the publication notes at the new Apple’s office, engineers will be able to work on wireless radios, radio-frequency integrated circuits, and a wireless system-on-a-chip (SoC). They will also be given the chance to develop semiconductors for connecting to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. In this way, they will cover all the components that Apple currently sources from third-party manufacturers.

There is no information on when Apple’s in-house chips will show up in its devices’ lineup because at that stage, the company is still searching for experienced individuals.

What do you need to bear in mind when purchasing HR software for your business? https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/16/what-do-you-need-to-bear-in-mind-when-purchasing-hr-software-for-your-business/ Thu, 16 Dec 2021 16:45:20 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=76951 ...]]> If you decide to purchase HR software for your company, you need to know that it would be a real challenge and an experience which may be time-consuming.

What do you need to do?

There are some actions you need to take in order to obtain the best software. You have to make sense of supplier marketing materials, zone in on suitable products, and evaluate your staff’s needs. If you want to avoid starting the buying process again or using a software that is not as good as you want it to be, you need to be aware of those things:

Firstly, you need to know that there are two types of software that you could choose for your human resource department – on-demand or on-premise software.

What is the difference?

The On-premise software is stored in your company’s computers and it is customized to be able to suit your needs. What does it mean? Well, the more your business grows, the less you invest in a tool. Why? Because this software can scale with your business, it requires rigorous training to operate, licensing for anyone who has access to the system, as well as frequent updates. Bear in mind that it is expensive to install.

The On-demand software, which is also called “Cloud software” is stored online. If your business is geographically spread, this is the best option for you. One of its advantages is that you have access to it wherever you are. It is also affordable and it doesn’t need to be updated frequently. However, it is not flexible which means that you may be forced to invest in a new one when your business grows or needs some change.

What about the cost?

When choosing a suitable HR software for your company, you need to buy a tool which you can afford. It’s a bad idea to buy software which is the cheapest option on the market because it may not be suitable for your business and its needs. But, if you want to reduce spending, it’s a good idea to check online some websites that provide discounts.

The third important thing you need to be aware of is that the size of your company has a direct impact on the features and functionalities your preferred HR software should include. Payroll, employee data, talent management, company policies, leave management, etc. are features which come with the typical HR software. So, if you are running a large company, features such as exit, onboarding, and automation are really helpful for your organization.

Also, you need to think about your employees. You need a software which is easy to use by them, especially when they are not tech-savvy. Providing a software that is complex to navigate automatically means that there will be delays in the execution of operations. Not only that, but you need to invest money in training your staff – this is really important if you want your company to grow. However, if your business needs complex software, be sure to spend time and money in educating employees on how to work with it.

Last but not least, you need to think about the security of you and your staff. Make sure you choose the software which will prevent you from accessing unauthorized personnel to your data.

Kronos is hit by a Ransomware Attack https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/15/kronos-is-hit-by-a-ransomware-attack/ Wed, 15 Dec 2021 12:56:46 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=76764 ...]]> For a few weeks companies won’t be able to use Kronos. The reason? The Ultimate Kronos Group was hit by a ransomware attack, and that’s why its clients do not have access to the processing payroll, handling time sheets and managing their workforce.

Actually, Kronos Workforce Central is also stricken by the attack. Its tools were created for industries with the aim to help them manage their workforce on a cloud platform. It contains a suite of workforce management solutions for time and attendance, absence management, scheduling and more.

At that moment, Kronos advised its clients to search for an alternative for workforce management while it navigates this situation and finds a solution. Some of the high profile clients which are using Kronos systems are Tesla, Puma, YMCA, and others.

Kronos found out about the problem on Saturday evening, and after that the company announced that it may take a couple of weeks for the problem to be fixed, but they did not give more information about when the situation will be solved.

According to Bob Hughes’s post, who is an executive vice president at UKG, there are some other services which are impacted by the attack such as Healthcare Extensions, UKG TeleStaff and Banking Scheduling Solutions.
