CircleCI Releases New Developer Version Control Feature https://devstyler.io/blog/2024/03/18/circleci-releases-new-developer-version-control-feature/ Mon, 18 Mar 2024 12:31:22 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=119932 ...]]> CircleCI has announced a new feature that will allow developers to automate version control processes directly from the CircleCI user interface.

“If you look at every other deploy and release vendor on the market, they’re built to service centralized release and operations teams who want tighter control over deploys. But this doesn’t reflect the reality of elite software teams who depend on developers to drive and deliver fast innovation. Our approach to CircleCI releases provides a developer-centric workflow that enables them to ship faster and monitor new features in production coupled with the safety net of quickly rolling back releases if something goes wrong”, said Rob Zuber, CTO of CircleCI.

According to the company, the main advantage of this new feature is that it can give developers more confidence in creating releases, as well as reduce the average time to fix issues.

With ongoing Kubernetes and Amazon SageMaker support, developers now have comprehensive visibility into their production deployments and access to rollback commands (e.g., version recovery, component scaling, and component restart).

Some of the key capabilities that will emerge with CircleCI releases include the ability to link CI/CD to customer experiences, real-time service validation, performance degradation prevention, and more.

The Release Dashboard shows a release history for all components with details for each, a list of release environments, and a list of components and associated projects.

Android Development Team with Changes That Will Help Developers Work https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/11/17/android-development-team-with-changes-that-will-help-developers-work/ Fri, 17 Nov 2023 09:11:01 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=114206 ...]]> The Android development team is making several changes aimed at helping Android developers and their development.

New capabilities are being added for creating and managing lists in Google Play, including the ability to save lists as drafts, schedule lists for publishing at specific times, and test lists with a portion of the relevant audience.

This follows changes from earlier this year, such as the ability to create custom store lists for different audiences.

The team is also adding several updates to price experiments, a feature that allows developers to test different price points and optimize prices for local buying power. Starting next month, developers will be able to save price experiments as drafts, remove variations from experiments if the results aren’t good, see warning notifications for price configuration issues, and apply the “winning” price to all products.

Developers can also now more effectively display their available products based on regional availability. This is accomplished by using the getBillingConfigAsync API, which provides the user’s state.

Another upcoming feature is the expansion of real-time developer notifications to include one-time purchases and canceled purchases.

The Android development team is actively enhancing billing flexibility by introducing alternative billing APIs in more than 35 markets. This initiative aims to offer developers a smoother billing experience when delivering apps to users in markets where alternative payment methods are preferred over Google’s payment service. With this update, developers will no longer be required to construct and uphold choice screens. They can efficiently handle alternative billing settings, and transactions processed through the API will be integrated into the Top Charts and developer reports. This reporting includes details such as exchange rates, associated app package ID, and service fee rates.

To improve overall app quality, developers will also get access to more metrics to help them monitor their apps for bad behaviors. New features include hourly vitals data during release rollouts, access to three years of vitals data to analyze long-term trends, per-device metrics, alerts when per-device bad behavior thresholds reach 8%, recommended fixes for errors in Android Studio, and the ability to grant team members limited access to app quality data.

Lastly, the Play Integrity API, designed to mitigate app tampering, has undergone enhancements, including a new signal verifying that Play Protect remains active, an additional Play Integrity API report, and the capability to oversee Play Integrity API integration through the Google Play SDK Console. Moreover, low-latency Play Integrity API standard requests are now widely accessible, promising integrity verdicts with a speed boost—reportedly 10 times faster, as per Google.

Gartner Announces Top 10 Strategic Tech Trends for 2024 https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/10/24/gartner-announces-top-10-strategic-tech-trends-for-2024/ Tue, 24 Oct 2023 13:18:26 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=112506 ...]]> Gartner, Inc. today announced its list of 10 top strategic technology trends that organizations need to explore in 2024. Analysts presented their findings during Gartner IT Symposium/Xpo.

“Technology disruptions and socioeconomic uncertainties require willingness to act boldly and strategically enhance resilience over ad hoc responses. IT leaders are in a unique position to strategically lay down a roadmap where technology investments help their business’s sustenance of success amidst these uncertainties and pressures”, said Bart Willemsen, VP Analyst at Gartner.

“They and other executives must evaluate the impacts and benefits of strategic technology trends, but this is no small task given the increasing rate of technological innovation. For example, generative and other types of AI offer new opportunities and drive several trends. But deriving business value from the durable use of AI requires a disciplined approach to widespread adoption along with attention to the risks”, said Chris Howard, Distinguished VP Analyst and Chief of Research at Gartner.

The top strategic technology trends for 2024 are:

Democratized Generative AI
Generative AI (GenAI) is becoming democratized by the confluence of massively pretrained models, cloud computing and open source, making these models accessible to workers worldwide. By 2026, Gartner predicts that over 80% of enterprises will have used GenAI APIs and models and/or deployed GenAI-enabled applications in production environments, up from less than 5% early 2023.
GenAI applications can make vast sources of information — internal and external — accessible and available to business users. This means the rapid adoption of GenAI will significantly democratize knowledge and skills in the enterprise. Large language models enable enterprises to connect their workers with knowledge in a conversational style with rich semantic understanding.

AI Trust, Risk and Security Management
The democratization of access to AI has made the need for AI Trust, Risk and Security Management (TRiSM) even more urgent and clear. Without guardrails, AI models can rapidly generate compounding negative effects that spin out of control, overshadowing any positive performance and societal gains that AI enables. AI TRiSM provides tooling for ModelOps, proactive data protection, AI-specific security, model monitoring (including monitoring for data drift, model drift, and/or unintended outcomes) and risk controls for inputs and outputs to third-party models and applications.

Gartner predicts that by 2026, enterprises that apply AI TRiSM controls will increase the accuracy of their decision making by eliminating up to 80% of faulty and illegitimate information.

AI-Augmented Development
AI-augmented development is the use of AI technologies, such as GenAI and machine learning, to aid software engineers in designing, coding and testing applications. AI-assisted software engineering improves developer productivity and enables development teams to address the increasing demand for software to run the business. These AI-infused development tools allow software engineers to spend less time writing code, so they can spend more time on more strategic activities such as the design and composition of compelling business applications.

Intelligent Applications
Intelligent applications include intelligence — which Gartner defines as learned adaptation to respond appropriately and autonomously — as a capability. This intelligence can be utilized in many use cases to better augment or automate work. As a foundational capability, intelligence in applications comprises various AI-based services, such as machine learning, vector stores and connected data. Consequently, intelligent applications deliver experiences that dynamically adapt to the user.

A clear need and demand for intelligent applications exists. Twenty-six percent of CEOs in the 2023 Gartner CEO and Senior Business Executive Survey cited the talent shortage as the most damaging risk for their organization. Attracting and retaining talent is CEOs’ top workforce priority, while AI was named the technology that will most significantly impact their industries over the next three years.

Augmented-Connected Workforce
The augmented-connected workforce (ACWF) is a strategy for optimizing the value derived from human workers. The need to accelerate and scale talent is driving the ACWF trend. The ACWF uses intelligent applications and workforce analytics to provide everyday context and guidance to support the workforce’s experience, well-being, and ability to develop its own skills. At the same time, the ACWF drives business results and positive impact for key stakeholders.

Through 2027, 25% of CIOs will use augmented-connected workforce initiatives to reduce time to competency by 50% for key roles.

Continuous Threat Exposure Management
Continuous threat exposure management (CTEM) is a pragmatic and systemic approach that allows organizations to evaluate the accessibility, exposure and exploitability of an enterprise’s digital and physical assets continually and consistently. Aligning CTEM assessment and remediation scopes with threat vectors or business projects, rather than an infrastructure component, surfaces not only the vulnerabilities, but also unpatchable threats.

By 2026, Gartner predicts that organizations prioritizing their security investments based on a CTEM program will realize a two-thirds reduction in breaches.

Machine Customers
Machine customers (also called ‘custobots’) are nonhuman economic actors that can autonomously negotiate and purchase goods and services in exchange for payment. By 2028, 15 billion connected products will exist with the potential to behave as customers, with billions more to follow in the coming years. This growth trend will be the source of trillions of dollars in revenues by 2030 and eventually become more significant than the arrival of digital commerce. Strategic considerations should include opportunities to either facilitate these algorithms and devices, or even create new custobots.

Sustainable Technology
Sustainable technology is a framework of digital solutions used to enable environmental, social and governance (ESG) outcomes that support long-term ecological balance and human rights. The use of technologies such as AI, cryptocurrency, the Internet of Things and cloud computing is driving concern about the related energy consumption and environmental impacts. This makes it more critical to ensure that the use of IT becomes more efficient, circular and sustainable. In fact, Gartner predicts that by 2027, 25% of CIOs will see their personal compensation linked to their sustainable technology impact.

Platform Engineering
Platform engineering is the discipline of building and operating self-service internal development platforms. Each platform is a layer, created and maintained by a dedicated product team, designed to support the needs of its users by interfacing with tools and processes. The goal of platform engineering is to optimize productivity, the user experience and accelerate delivery of business value.

Industry Cloud Platforms
By 2027, Gartner predicts more than 70% of enterprises will use industry cloud platforms (ICPs) to accelerate their business initiatives, up from less than 15% in 2023. ICPs address industry-relevant business outcomes by combining underlying SaaS, PaaS and IaaS services into a whole product offering with composable capabilities. These typically include an industry data fabric, a library of packaged business capabilities, composition tools and other platform innovations. ICPs are tailored cloud proposals specific to an industry and can further be tailored to an organization’s needs.

This year’s top strategic technology trends highlight those trends that will drive significant disruption and opportunity for CIOs and other IT leaders within the next 36 months.

Psychotherapist Natasha Duke and How to Recover from Burnout https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/08/24/psychotherapist-natasha-duke-and-how-to-recover-from-burnout/ Thu, 24 Aug 2023 08:34:12 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=110405 ...]]> We often hear people talking about “Burnout”, a word that has definitely become quite trendy in the last few years. In fact, people use it to describe any state in which they feel “burnout”. It’s especially used among programmers when they have a busy work week or when they have a to-do list and projects with too many demands and too short deadlines.

So what actually constitutes “burnout”? And do you often feel this way? And even more important: How can you deal with it?

Today we will introduce you to the best tips from specialist psychotherapist Natasha Duke, which Health Cleveland Clinic presents to us and which will help you recover from the “burnout” condition.

Admit you’re burnt out
There is no way to improve your condition unless you admit that your present situation must change. This can be very difficult, especially if the thing that brings you to this state-such as parenting or a job you love-is important to you.

If possible, move away from stressors
What this means depends on your situation and resources. “Distance” can be as significant as leaving a job or taking time off from work. If you don’t want to be away for too long, take a week off where you avoid even looking at your work email.

Remember that health is most important
You’ve been running burnt out for a while, so it’s time to recharge. That might mean getting an extra hour of sleep at night, cooking your favorite meals instead of taking them home, or hanging out with friends more often. Anything that helps you feel like yourself again – do it.

Reassess your goals and values
When your condition starts to improve, it’s time to use these resources to reflect on the situation that led you to burnout. What are you not getting that you need to be happy? Is your mindset helping you, or hurting you? Are your priorities in alignment with your values? What is most important to you and why?

Explore alternative routes and options
Now that you’re clear about what you don’t like about your life, is it time to think about what specific change or changes you could make to improve your situation? Maybe you need to quit a job that is proving too stressful, or maybe you just need to cut back and look after yourself more. Changes don’t have to be big to make a meaningful difference in your daily life. With small but significant steps you can tackle anything. Even with the burnout condition.

Take a break and/or make a change
Once you’ve figured out what you need, you need to do it. It’s time. Do it for yourself. It’s not always easy, but it’s vital to the recovery process. If you stay in the same situation and do not take action, your condition will worsen. Be careful and remember that health – physical and mental – is first among priorities.

If Programming Languages Had Slogans, Here’s What They Would Be https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/07/17/if-programming-languages-had-slogans-here-s-what-they-would-be/ Mon, 17 Jul 2023 10:39:42 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=109157 ...]]> Did you know that programming languages also have slogans? Yes, just like brands and companies, programming languages have them and programmers often use them while working.

Today, we have chosen to bring you a list of the most fun and popular slogans and quotes used for well-known programming languages among the IT community.

Java
We’re getting old and were always verbose. But pay us and we’ll give you long term support.

C
I might be the oldest, but you still have to allocate me space. Pointing at others is my favorite hobby.

C++
You can hate us, despise us, but we’ll find our ways into your framework. We believe in friends at work.

C#
I’m neither like my father nor a music note. I’d see sharper than Java, only if there was cross-platform GUI support.

Rust
If it works, fix it anyway.

Assembly Language
Worry about microseconds, not your finite lifespan.

Perl
The Wild West in text processing form.

Python
The Netherlands in text processing form.

Ruby
Easy to understand, especially after the first five years.

Scala
Do you find ordinary programming languages too easy? Try Scala.

Swift
Probably not everything Apple does is right.

Awk
Recapture your nostalgia for the late 1970s.

Fortran
Recapture your nostalgia for the 1950s.

PHP
Because sometimes, you need to compromise your principles.

Basic
Everyone’s got to start somewhere.

Pascal
You can use a proper language when you finish your course.

Kotlin
Damn those Oracle guys with their so-called Java.

Go
We know you hate C++. Here’s the answer.

Smalltalk
Surely, we can’t just throw it away?

Lisp
Because life’s too short to learn new programming languages.

*The list was submitted by a Medium author who polled programmers for the most commonly used programming language slogans.

10 of the Best Countries to Get a Digital Nomad Visa https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/10/10-of-the-best-countries-to-get-a-digital-nomad-visa/ Fri, 10 Feb 2023 10:08:07 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=100863 ...]]> The practice of obtaining a so-called “nomad” visa became popular a few years ago. It is mainly a preferred practice by people in the IT sector because of the freedom to work from anywhere in the world, which was contributed by the global pandemic in 2020. After the massive development of remote technology that allows mobility, many professionals started to combine the useful with the pleasant and choose to work in various exotic and interesting places, wrote Gizmodo.

The destinations on this list include some of the most desirable places when planning to live the expat life through various digital nomad visa programs.

Spain
Spain is introducing its own digital nomad visa, adding to the list of nearly 50 countries that have introduced it in recent years. The country’s parliament approved the visa last November and it will allow non-EU nationals to stay in Spain for up to five years.

The visas are being made available as a way for people working remotely to travel and live in the country, provided they meet the necessary requirements.

Like many other countries that have introduced a visa for digital nomads, Spain has introduced several requirements. The visa requires all applicants to work at a company that has been operating for more than one year, pass a background check, and have an income exceeding at least 200% of the current minimum wage in Spain. The minimum wage amounts to approximately EUR 1,260 (USD 1,361) per month or EUR 28,196 (USD 30,240) per year.

Estonia
The digital nomad visa was introduced here in July 2020, allowing foreigners to live and work in Estonia for up to a year.

“CrossfireX” and “Knockout City” – The New Names of the Games That Will Soon be Stopped https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/06/crossfirex-and-knockout-city-the-new-names-of-the-games-that-will-soon-be-stopped/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 09:37:28 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=100318 ...]]> Tough times are coming for fans of several games with live service, which are titles destined to be permanently updated over a long period of time. Several of them will be shut down in the near future, and CrossfireX and Knockout City are among the latest to join the list.

CrossfireX is the Xbox console version of the massively popular tactical shooter Crossfire. After some delay, it appeared less than a year ago, but was neither a hit with critics nor, more importantly, the public, Engadget wrote on the subject.

Developer Smilegate has stopped selling the game (the multiplayer component is free-to-play, but the single-player campaign, developed by Remedy, is not) and is offering refunds on purchases made in the last two weeks. The company will shut down CrossfireX’s servers on May 18.

Meanwhile, Knockout City is a fun dodgeball game that debuts in 2021. It became free-to-play last year when developer Velan Studios parted ways with EA to release it independently. Alas, Knockout City is also being shut down.

It’s hard to make a successful game, let alone one that requires players to stick with it for a long period of time. Major players like Fortnite, Apex Legends (the console and PC version), Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Genshin Impact won’t be showing up anytime soon. All the developers are competing with each other and anything else that can grab people’s attention. Even though there are more than 3 billion gamers, there are only so many games with live service that the market can support.
