NFTs – Devstyler.io https://devstyler.io News for developers from tech to lifestyle Thu, 09 Mar 2023 11:55:41 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.5 .ART Launches Matching ENS and DNS Domains for the Web3 World https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/03/09/art-launches-matching-ens-and-dns-domains-for-the-web3-world/ Thu, 09 Mar 2023 11:55:41 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=102868 ...]]> .ART announced an innovation that bridges the gap between Web2 and Web3: combining ENS and DNS domains.

ENS (Ethereum Name Service) domains are familiar names for the decentralized world. They provide a way for users to map human-readable names to wallet addresses, smart contracts, NFTs, IPFS content, or any other assets on Ethereum and dozens of other networks.

Domain Name System (DNS) domains are the traditional domain names used on the Internet. They allow users to access websites and send emails using familiar names such as example.art.

With matching ENS and DNS domains on .ART, users can take advantage of the best of both worlds: a name that works on the Web2 and Web3 platforms.

For example, if you own yourname.art as a DNS domain, you can also register yourname.art as an ENS domain pointing to any digital asset in the Etherium blockchain (just like an .ETH domain). The same name can also be used as a web address in any web browser pointing to a website, and also as an email address (something the .ETH domain cannot do). This makes .ART domains future-proof and versatile.

“We are thrilled to launch this new feature that connects Web2 and Web3 with our unique .ART extension. We believe that this will open up new possibilities for artists, collectors, curators, galleries, museums and anyone who wants to express themselves creatively online or on Web3. Our vision is to make .ART domains not only a digital identity but also a digital asset that can be used in various ways on different platforms”,

said Ulvi Kasimov, Founder of .ART Domains.

.ART is also collision-proof: only the owner of a DNS .ART domain can register the matching ENS .ART domain. Similarly, if an ENS .ART domain is registered for an available DNS .ART domain, only the person who owns the ENS .ART domain can use the DNS .ART domain. This ensures that there can be no confusion or conflict between different owners of similar names.

.ART is the first domain registry to offer this innovative matching domain capability across both ENS and DNS, making .ART domains more powerful and useful than any other blockchain capable domains.

Minecraft developer Mojang has banned NFTs https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/07/22/minecraft-developer-mojang-has-banned-nfts/ Thu, 21 Jul 2022 21:59:12 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=89057 ...]]> Minecraft developer Mojang, a subsidiary of Microsoft, said on Wednesday it was instituting a ban on blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens integrating with its game client or making use of any of the game’s assets like mods, items and character skins.

The company posted a blog post titled “Minecraft and NFTs” and acknowledged that some creators and companies have begun launching NFT projects associated with Minecraft world files and skin packs. The post also suggested Minecraft creators may use the game as a platform to create and sell collectible NFTs that players could earn through activities performed on a Minecraft server or as a reward for activities in the real world.

“To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not permitted to be integrated inside our Minecraft client and server applications nor may they be utilized to create NFTs associated with any in-game content, including worlds, skins, persona items, or other mods,” Mojang wrote in the post.

“We will also be paying close attention to how blockchain technology evolves over time to ensure that the above principles are withheld and determine whether it will allow for more secure experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in gaming,” the company added. “However, we have no plans of implementing blockchain technology into Minecraft right now.”

The traditional game industry has begun to distance itself from NFTs over the past few months following backlash from players and a crashing crypto market. Sony last week said it would be launching a digital collectibles feature as part of a new PlayStation rewards program, but clarified emphatically that its collectibles were “definitely not NFTs.” Ubisoft, which became the first major game publisher to experiment with NFTs last fall, shut down its experiment after four months. Last October, Steam marketplace owner Valve said it would not permit any games using blockchain or NFT technology, though Fortnite creator Epic Games recently opened the door to such products on its PC game store.

Microsoft has not issued a strong opinion on the subject as it relates to its library of gaming properties before now. But Xbox chief and Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer told Protocol last year he was “leery” of the “near-term kind of hysteria around NFTs” and the potential for scams, fraud and the pyramid scheme nature of the crypto market leading to consumers losing vast sums of real money very quickly. Spencer separately told Axios last fall that NFTs had the potential to be exploitative and that the market contained “a lot of things that probably are not things you want to have in your store.”

Mojang’s blog post expresses similar sentiments. “Each of these uses of NFTs and other blockchain technologies creates digital ownership based on scarcity and exclusion, which does not align with Minecraft values of creative inclusion and playing together,” the company wrote. “NFTs are not inclusive of all our community and create a scenario of the haves and the have-nots. The speculative pricing and investment mentality around NFTs takes the focus away from playing the game and encourages profiteering, which we think is inconsistent with the long-term joy and success of our players.”

The studio said it was also worried about fraud and that third-party NFT technology could result in a loss of assets for consumers, situations that “may end up costing players who buy them.

A Quick Guide to Basic Solidity for Developers https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/09/08/a-quick-guide-to-basic-solidity-for-developers/ Wed, 08 Sep 2021 12:43:02 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=69717 ...]]> This quick guide is a little refresher for those who have been out of the smart contract business for a while, or for newbies who want to learn the very basics of Solidity smart contracts.

What is Solidity

Solidity is the language in which most smart contracts are written. This means that anything from NFTs to Defi dApps might be written in Solidity. it runs on the blockchain and the code is stored there as well. This means you cannot have any bugs since you cannot update the contract once it is deployed.

Luckily for Ethereum, Polygon, and other blockchains have several tenets on which we can test our smart contract’s code before we deploy it to the real world main nets.

New Syntax

For this next part, I will assume you have some programming knowledge. Anything from functions and variables to classes and interfaces. Solidity isn’t hard to learn but it does have its quirks you need to keep in mind.

Mappings

Mappings are a way to store data in Solidity. When given a key, they will retrieve the value for you. For example, the owner of a token given by index.

They are often used to keep track of the owners of tokens. But in more intricate smart contracts they often have lots of uses.

Functions

The syntax for functions is pretty standard across languages. Solidity has a slightly different syntax because of modifiers.

The scope indicates who can call the function. This would be private , public , internal or external . A view function doesn’t cost any gas fees but it can only be read from the chain.

Modifiers

Modifiers make sure that only certain users can execute a function. The most used default modifier is the only owner which makes sure only the owner of the contract can execute the function. But you can make your own.

the _; syntax lets the code return to the function called the modifier. If you call _; the code will assume that the condition has passed.

There are a lot of checks you can do with modifiers that you would otherwise have to do in the function itself. If you are a developer in any other field, this wouldn’t be hard to learn. If you’re a new developer, I might have to write another article for you. Solidity is a language that is fairly new and will change over time. If you want to learn it from scratch without Medium, I highly suggest Crypto Zombies learn the basics of the language.
