Reports have also surfaced that Altman was offered a reassignment, but he declined and the company has begun searching for a new interim CEO.

Yesterday morning everyone’s attention was drawn to one piece of news. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Altman would be joining the tech giant to lead a new advanced artificial intelligence research team.

And even though Sam Altman’s name has become the most commented on for a few days, few of you actually know who he is and what his contributions to artificial intelligence are.

Let’s get to know the founder of ChatGPT a little better and understand what significance he has in the field of technology. 10 things you need to know about Sam Altman, presented by News Ablive.

  • Samuel Harris Altman was born into a Jewish family on April 22, 1985. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. He got his first computer when he was only eight years old.
  • He chose to go to Stanford University to study computer science, but dropped out after one year. In 2005, he decided to pursue other things.
  • At the age of 19, he co-founded the location-based social media app, Loopt. He raised $30 million from venture capital funds, but the company failed to get on its feet. Loopt was eventually purchased by Green Dot Corporation for $43.4 million in 2012.
  • In 2011, Loopt joined Y Combinator as a part-time partner. Within 3 years, he became president of Y Combinator.
  • In 2015, he joined Combinator. Altman made Forbes’ “30 under 30” list.
  • In 2016, he became the president of YC Group which comprised Y Combinator and other units. He then decided to focus on the AI research lab OpenAI in 2019 and hence stepped down from the president of the YC Group to just holding a chair on its board.
  • In 2019, he co-founded Tools for Humanity, a company that built a cryptocurrency-based global iris-based biometric system, called Worldcoin. However, the company drew flak after the publication of a 2022 report by MIT Technology Review which revealed that it exploited the indigent workers of low-income countries in order to expand its network.
  • He then made the complete transition to OpenAI as a CEO and co-founder in 2020. The company had already received funding from tech giants such as Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, and others.
  • He was named one of the 100 most influential people by Time Magazine in 2023 based on his work with OpenAI and his investments in startups such as Airbnb, Stripe, Pinterest, Reddit, etc.
  • Fun fact, he was also the the CEO of our beloved Reddit for a short span of eight days in 2014 during the period when Yishan Wong stepped down and Steve Huffman returned as CEO.

How to Successfully Optimize Application Development and Management https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/10/26/how-to-successfully-optimize-application-development-and-management/ Thu, 26 Oct 2023 06:45:16 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=112571 ...]]> Good morning, readers! In today’s dynamic technological landscape, alongside economic challenges, intricate contracts, and service-level agreements, businesses face obstacles when it comes to adapting and evolving. This ever-changing environment also means that the demands of application development and management (ADM) are in a constant state of flux.

However, amidst these challenges lies an opportunity for companies to take a proactive approach in steering and actively overseeing their ADM processes. As organizations seek innovative ways to enhance their ADM services, they should give precedence to the development of a strategic, straightforward, and enduring roadmap.

Boosting Strategic Decision-Making: Enterprises are now turning to a strategic approach in Application Development and Management (ADM) to cut costs and attain more closely aligned outcomes with their business objectives. This shift promises enhanced efficiency and effectiveness in the realm of application development and management. To achieve these coveted strategic results, organizations are prioritizing five key principles and practices:

  1. Aligning ADM Portfolios with Business Goals: Enterprises are now emphasizing the need to clearly define their business objectives before evaluating their current application landscape and their respective purposes. The review of the application portfolio is conducted in line with these pre-defined business goals, which involves assessing each application’s functionality, usage, and contributions to the organization.
  2. Prioritizing Critical Applications: Not all applications hold the same level of significance in an organization’s success. Thus, enterprises are directing their ADM efforts towards the applications that are deemed most crucial in realizing their business objectives and delivering value to stakeholders.
  3. Cultivating an Innovation-Oriented Environment: In the world of Application Development and Management (ADM), fostering a culture of innovation is paramount. ADM serves as a facilitator for the creation of novel products, services, and even the adoption of fresh business models, by equipping enterprises with the essential tools and infrastructure necessary to encourage innovation.
  4. Elevating Focus on Data and Analytics: The realm of data is evolving at an unprecedented rate, presenting businesses with increasingly intricate and diverse data sets. To navigate this data landscape effectively, a well-structured ADM framework is indispensable. It’s the linchpin that ensures the efficient and accurate processing and management of this data. The collection, processing, and analysis of data from a multitude of sources are vital components of an effective data analysis strategy.
  5. Selecting a Strategic Partner: In the quest for success, the choice of a strategic partner is of paramount importance. It’s crucial not to overcomplicate the setup and business Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). When seeking a partner, it’s imperative to ensure that they possess comprehensive expertise in all facets of applications and the rapidly evolving technological landscape, aligning seamlessly with your business strategy.

London and Berlin are the Most Wanted Locations for VC Jobs in Europe https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/27/london-and-berlin-with-the-most-vc-jobs-in-europe/ Mon, 27 Feb 2023 11:28:20 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=102196 ...]]> Conrad Kordowski, former head of the investment team at Slush and investment analyst at Innovation Nest, has reviewed more than 1,400 venture investment jobs advertised through 2022 and found that when it comes to venture investment jobs, London and Berlin are the most in-demand locations, tech.eu reports.

There are 135 vacancies in Berlin and 118 in London, with just over half of all vacancies in both capitals. Munich and Paris rank third and fourth respectively, Zurich 12 positions, Frankfurt 11, Stockholm and Amsterdam 8 and Barcelona and Cologne complete the top 10 with 7 positions.

It’s probably no surprise to anyone that the US accounts for 55.7% of all vacancies in the VC world, with Germany, the UK and France taking the No. 2, 3 and 4 spots. And Australia ranks fifth with 35 jobs on offer, despite its domestic VC market being just 10% of Europe’s in terms of funding in Q4 2022.

The job market over the past year was filled with junior (intern and/or analyst) and mid-level (associate/investment manager) opportunities, which accounted for 38.6% and 43.1%, respectively. Senior level positions (director/partner), the venture capital job market in 2022 saw only 18.3% of positions advertised or available.

Kordowski also notes that the high percentage of entry-level positions “may be due to the high turnover of such opportunities, with some venture capital firms often hiring new interns or analysts every 3-6 months.”

“Due to the private nature of some hiring processes in VC, it was not possible to gather information from every VC firm.”

he said

Kordovsky’s data includes 1,407 job postings from 805 venture capital firms in 35 countries that are posted on two publicly available venture capital-related job boards, Startup&VC and John Gannon Blog.

Fyrii Releases New Developer-Experience Platform Dev X https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/23/fyrii-releases-new-developer-experience-platform-dev-x/ Thu, 23 Feb 2023 10:18:32 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=101955 ...]]> Fyrii has announced the launch of FyriiTM Dev X, a developer-experience platform (DEP) that enables customers to collaboratively manage, create and sell with their developer/partner ecosystem, reports Martech Series.

“Fyrii’s mission is to make it easy for companies to build, manage, and monetize their developer and partner ecosystems,”

said Padma Subramanian, CEO of Fyrii.

It is a SaaS application that allows companies to:
– Build and manage the developer catalog and partner ecosystems.
– Profit from integrations developed by their ecosystem.
– Publish their application programming interfaces (APIs), use cases, and documentation directly at the point of creation.

The CEO also says that developers are a legitimate channel to market for most companies these days, but companies need help to succeed in their developer strategies, ecosystems and APIs.

The company will continue to enable its ecosystem to build many more such integrations and organically expand revenue opportunities for enterprises and developers within DEP.

Fyrii is just one example that proves how reusable integrations can create business value. More and more companies are taking an API-centric approach, and the opportunities to increase revenue and reduce costs through integrations will only increase.

“This partnership will help grow NVIDIA’s catalog of titles to include games like Call of Duty, while giving developers more ways to offer streaming games. We are excited to offer gamers more ways to play the games they love.”

said Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer.

The agreement will allow gamers to stream Xbox PC titles from GeForce NOW on PCs, macOS, Chromebooks, smartphones and other devices. It will also enable Activision Blizzard PC titles, such as Call of Duty, to be streamed on GeForce NOW once Activision’s acquisition by Microsoft is completed.

“Combining the incredibly rich catalog of Xbox first party games with GeForce NOW’s high-performance streaming capabilities will propel cloud gaming into a mainstream offering that appeals to gamers at all levels of interest and experience. Through this partnership, more of the world’s most popular titles will now be available from the cloud with just a click, playable by millions more gamers.”

said Jeff Fisher, senior vice president for GeForce at NVIDIA.

The partnership delivers increased choice to gamers and resolves NVIDIA’s concerns with Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

Microsoft and NVIDIA will begin work immediately to integrate Xbox PC games into GeForce NOW, so that GeForce NOW members can stream PC games they buy in the Windows Store, including third-party partner titles where the publisher has granted streaming rights to NVIDIA. Xbox PC games currently available in third-party stores like Steam or Epic Games Store will also be able to be streamed through GeForce NOW.

Unity and Google Collaborate for the Maximum Benefit of Game Developers https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/01/30/unity-and-google-collaborate-for-the-maximum-benefit-of-game-developers/ Mon, 30 Jan 2023 11:12:07 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=99710 ...]]> Unity, the world’s leading real-time 3D content creation and development (RT3D) platform, and Google announced that the companies are expanding their partnership and deepening collaboration across their ecosystems to help studios accelerate the growth and development of their live games.

Such a partnership makes it easier for all developers to create multiplayer experiences by offering two solutions from Unity Gaming Services (UGS) – game server hosting (Multiplay) and voice and text chat (Vivox) – on Google Cloud Marketplace.

Additionally, the companies announced that Google Ads and Display & Video 360 will soon be bidding on Unity LevelPlay, Unity’s mediated offering, as part of Google’s partner bidding program.

“Unity and Google are working together to provide developers with the most robust tools and infrastructure to build, launch, and grow games seamlessly at a global scale,”

said Jeff Collins, General Manager, Unity Gaming Services.

“The integration of Google demand into Unity LevelPlay and the expansion of our UGS solutions, Game Server Hosting and Voice and Text Chat to Google Cloud Marketplace serve as important milestones in this deepening partnership that aims to enable game creators to deliver on their creative vision and to achieve business success.”

Jeff Collins continued.

Unity and Google Cloud are making it easier for all developers to deliver multiplayer games. Game Server Hosting (Multiplay) and Unity’s Voice and Text Chat (Vivox) are the first products from Unity Gaming Services to be available on Google Cloud Marketplace.

“Our expanded partnership with Unity enables us to more easily deliver products like Game Server Hosting and Voice and Text Chat at scale, making building games with Unity even more seamless.”

said Thomas Kurian, CEO, Google Cloud.

Game Server Hosting is a dedicated game server hosting service that helps creators effectively scale their game to millions of players in minutes. Voice and Text Chat enable in-game player communications, which, according to the Unity 2022 Multiplayer Report, is the primary way players want to communicate.

Self-serve features were also recently added to both solutions, giving developers immediate access to foundational management tools that will accelerate multiplayer operations and deliver the best connected gaming experiences.

Clearlake Capital is about to Buy Quest Software https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/11/30/clearlake-capital-is-about-to-buy-quest-software/ Tue, 30 Nov 2021 15:53:15 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=75877 ...]]> ‘We believe Quest is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging growth trends in identity-centric cybersecurity, data intelligence and IT operations management software,’ that was announced by Clearlake’s Prashant Mehrotra and Paul Huber

After a half-decade of being owned by Francisco Partners, It is now reported that Clearlake Capital has agreed to purchase Quest Software for $5.4 billion including debt.

Aliso Viejo is based in California and it is a cybersecurity, data intelligence and IT operations management software provider that will continue to be led by Patrick Nichols, who has served as CEO since April 2020. The Wall Street Journal reported the $5.4 billion purchase price Sunday, even though the terms of the transaction were not disclosed. All of us remember that in 2016, Francisco Partners bought Quest and SonicWall from Dell Technologies for $2.4 billion.

In a statement, Nichols said:

“Our new partnership with Clearlake will accelerate Quest’s momentum as a leader and innovator as we increase our investment pace in our core product road maps, cloud/SaaS offerings and global presence. We will continue to expand our customer base as computing environments and related management, modernization and security challenges become more complex.”

It is expected that the transaction will be closed in the first quarter of 2022 and doesn’t include SonicWall, which is owned by private equity firm Francisco Partners and Elliott Management, which is an activist hedge fund. In June PE Hub reported that Francisco and Elliott Management were expected to launch a sale process for SonicWall later this month with assistance from Morgan Stanley.

Clearlake proposed that the acquisition of Quest would come less than two months after the purchase of OneLogin. Clearlake Partner Prashant Mehrotra and Principal Paul Huber commented:

“We believe Quest is well-positioned to capitalize on emerging growth trends in identity-centric cybersecurity, data intelligence and IT operations management software. Now with significant scale and complete independence, Quest is strategically differentiated in the market as a buy-and-build platform and industry consolidator.”

The co-founder and CEO Dipanjan Deb said that they are proud of the tremendous progress Quest has made since relaunching as an independent company. According to his words, they have had a long and successful track record executing divisional carve-out transactions and they are really grateful for having the opportunity to work with the Quest team in order to create value for the company, its customers and its partners.

Clearlake is planning to continue building Quest’s security and identity segment through further M&A, as it is now growing at double digits. The company sells its security technology to customers of all sizes, with One Identity traditionally focused on Fortune 5000 companies and OneLogin, historically strongest, in the commercial and midmarket areas.

As we know, in January 2021 Quest acquired data modelling, data governance and business process modelling software company, Erwin, from private equity firm Parallax Capital Partners. In the second half of 2020, Quest purchased Quadrotech and Binary Tree for expertise and software around Microsoft 365 and Office 365 cloud migrations.

Clearlake Co-Founder and Managing Partner Behdad Eghbali said in a statement that they are excited to partner with Patrick [Nichols, Quest’s CEO] and Carolyn McCarthy, Quest’s CFO … to help the company strengthen its strategic growth plans including best practices to accelerate cloud/SaaS adoption and support its buy-and-build strategy.
