The main goal is to create a super-intelligent artificial intelligence to help solve complex scientific and mathematical questions and “understand” the universe.

During the online audio event, which was streamed live on the social media platform, Musk’s all-male team of mathematics, artificial intelligence and engineering specialists talked about creating an artificial intelligence that is smarter than humans in order to benefit society.

The focus on Musk and his team’s idea is not on a competitive note. They have no intentions of competing with OpenAI, but rather are focused on answering deep scientific questions.

Musk also said he sees xAI as an alternative to larger AI companies, but said it is still “in its infancy” and that it will take time to catch up to OpenAI and Google.

Questions about the nature of dark matter as well as unsolved aspects of the workings of gravity may be among the mysteries his company is trying to explain. Musk spoke at length about the “Fermi paradox,” a theoretical question that asks why humans have not yet discovered extraterrestrials and suggests that technological civilizations typically self-destruct or are destroyed by an outside force before heading to other solar systems.

Jimmy Ba, a University of Toronto professor and well-known AI researcher who joined Musk’s company, said the goal is to create an AI that can help with a range of problems facing humanity.

“How can we build a general purpose problem-solving machine to help all of us, humanity, overcome the most challenging and ambitious problems out there, and how can we use those tools to augment ourselves and empower,” said Jimmy Ba.

Musk said his company’s artificial intelligence could offend people because it would speak “the truth.”

During the Twitter event, Musk said his company will need computing power, but it won’t be as big as other companies and the team will be relatively small.

According to Xbox Wire, World War II strategy game Sudden Strike 4: Complete Edition and mystery sci-fi adventure title Trüberbrook will be available to pick up from March 1-31. Meanwhile, Lamentum will be free to download for subscribers from March 16 and will remain available until April 15.

Sudden Strike 4 – Complete Collection is a World War II RTS game featuring some of the most memorable moments in military history, including in Rommel’s Africa, the Finnish front, and the iconic road to Dunkirk. This package includes all five previously released DLCs for Sudden Strike 4.

Trüberbrook tasks players with exploring the mysteries surrounding a strange 1960s German village set in a parallel universe populated by crazy scientists, reality rifts, and handmade miniature scenery.

Lamentum will be downloadable from March 16 to April 15. A Lovecraftian adventure set in a haunted mansion, Lamentum allows you to explore the dark depths of the human psyche as noblemen Victor Hartwell must decide how far he will go to save his sick wife. This survival horror game is not for the faint of heart.

The James Webb Telescope Has Imaged a Milky Way-like Galaxy a Billion Light Years Away https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/16/the-james-webb-telescope-has-imaged-a-milky-way-like-galaxy-a-billion-light-years-away/ Thu, 16 Feb 2023 11:33:21 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=101526 ...]]> The image reveals a spectacular spiral star system similar to our own.

Astronomers from the European Space Agency (ESA) have used the James Webb Space Telescope to capture an image of a spiral galaxy that resembles our home, the Milky Way. The star system, LEDA 2046648, is located a billion light-years from our own in the constellation Hercules; it contains thousands of galaxies, trillions of stars and countless planets, Engadget wrote on the subject.

The image from the NASA/ESA/CSA James Webb Space Telescope shows a crowded field of galaxies, as well as bright stars topped with Webb’s characteristic six-point diffraction spikes. The large spiral galaxy at the base of this image is accompanied by numerous smaller, more distant galaxies that range from full-blown spirals to simple bright spots. Called LEDA 2046648, it is located just over a billion light-years from Earth, in the constellation Hercules.

One of Webb’s main scientific goals is to observe distant galaxies in the early universe to understand the details of their formation, evolution and composition. Webb’s infrared vision helps the telescope peer back in time as the light from these distant galaxies is shifted to infrared wavelengths.

Comparing these systems to galaxies in the local Universe will help astronomers understand how galaxies evolved to form the structure we see today. Webb will also study the chemical composition of thousands of galaxies to shed light on how heavy elements have formed and accumulated over the course of galaxy evolution.

ESA published the image on January 31 (highlighted this week by The NY Times). The space agency describes it as a simple calibration image to “verify the telescope’s capabilities in the course of preparing it for science operations.” ESA astronomers imaged it on May 22, 2022, with the Webb telescope’s Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam).

Most of the visible spots surrounding LEDA 2046648 are also galaxies, although a few stars can be identified by their diffraction spike patterns. Some objects in the image may be as old as 300 million years after the Big Bang.

Of course, an image of something a billion light-years away means that we are observing the light of a galaxy from a billion years ago. So astronomers look forward to studying early galaxies like this (and even older ones) to help clarify the kinds of stars that condensed after the Big Bang – and how supermassive black holes ended up at the centers of most galaxies.

NVIDIA Omniverse Opens Portals for Scientists to Explore the Universe https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/11/30/nvidia-omniverse-opens-portals-for-scientists-to-explore-the-universe/ Wed, 30 Nov 2022 10:07:10 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=95094 ...]]> NVIDIA Omniverse connects to leading scientific computing visualization software and supports new batch-rendering workloads on systems powered by NVIDIA A100 and H100 Tensor Core GPUs.

Omniverse now supports batch workloads that AI and HPC researchers, scientists and engineers can run on their existing A100 or H100 systems — including rendering videos and images or generating synthetic 3D data.

“Today’s scientific computing workflows are extremely complex, involving enormous datasets that are impractical to move and large, global teams that use their own specialized tools,”

said Dion Harris, lead product manager of accelerated computing at NVIDIA.

“With new support for Omniverse on A100 and H100 systems, HPC customers can finally start to unlock legacy data silos, achieve interoperability in their complex simulation and visualization pipelines, and generate compelling visuals for their batch-rendering workflows.”

he continued.

Using Omniverse and hybrid-cloud workloads, scientific computing customers can connect legacy simulation and visualization pipelines to achieve distributed, fully interactive, true real-time interaction with their models and datasets.

James Webb Telescope Is Set to Launch https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/16/james-webb-telescope-is-set-to-launch/ Thu, 16 Dec 2021 10:03:31 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=76826 ...]]> On December 22, NASA, the Canadian Space Agency and the European Space Agency will launch a space observatory built into outer space – some 1.5 million kilometres from Earth, to be exact.

The space observatory has been designed as a successor to NASA and ESA’s Hubble telescope. James Webb will be launched to what is known as Lagrange point 2, or L2, where it will orbit the sun 1.5 million km from Earth.

This vantage point, as well as the infrared capabilities of Webb, will allow scientists to peer further and deeper into the cosmos. Raphael Chevrier, Head of Bid Management and Innovation for Arianespace, told Euronews Next:

“The further we look, the more we go back in time, closer to the origins of the universe and therefore the Big Bang.”

The French aerospace company will be providing the Ariane 5 heavy launcher that will carry the James Webb telescope into space from the ESA launchpad in French Guiana.

“Webb will be able to look at the formation of the first galaxies, primitive galaxies, and see how they have evolved in time.” added Chevrier.

James Webb can look very far into the universe and the launch will last 27 minutes. There’s also the enormous cost of the project.

The telescope has been built with 12 rocket thrusters. The goal is to course-correct post-launch, reposition itself and maintain its prescribed orbit in space.

It will take the telescope 29 days before it can insert itself into orbit at L2.
