Historic Moment: The First Car Drives Without a Person in It https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/08/historic-moment-the-first-car-drives-without-a-person-in-it/ Wed, 08 Feb 2023 12:11:24 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=100700 ...]]> Hamburg-based start-up Vay has successfully demonstrated its tele-driving solution, putting the first car on Europe’s public roads without a human in the vehicle, tech.eu reports.

“We have been remotely driving electric cars on public roads in Berlin and Hamburg for more than three years.”

explains CEO and co-founder Thomas von der Ohe.

The difference is that while Vay remotely drives cars that use a range of sensors, they do so with a real live human driver to ensure safety.

After receiving approval from TÜV SÜD, a branch of the German association for rigorous technical inspections, the German Road Traffic and Mobility Authority (BVM) granted Vay an exemption permit, paving the way for the Vay startup.

“This is a huge success for the entire team, but also for Hamburg and Europe. In the context of legally enabling new technologies, this is a significant step and Germany is making leaps in taking the global lead in teledriving technology,”

said von der Ohe.

Starting in 2022 (and make that in 2023), Hamburgers have the ability to order a ride, with a teledriver delivering the car to the customer within a few minutes. From there, it’s up to the customer to drive themselves to their chosen destination, but upon arrival, forget about finding a place to park, as a Vay teledriver will then resume control of the car and either parks it or carries on to the next customer, explains tech.eu

The company has made no secret of its desire to eventually move beyond the teleprompter and rely on autonomous driving features in the system when safe and permitted.

U.S Sensitive Data is threatened to be stolen by Russian Hackers https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/02/17/u-s-sensitive-data-is-threatened-to-be-stolen-by-russian-hackers/ Thu, 17 Feb 2022 14:43:32 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=81281 ...]]> Representatives of the U.S. intelligence community alerted they have observed “regular targeting of U.S cleared defense contractors by Russian state-sponsored cyber actors.”

According to the officials, these hackers applied some basic but clearly effective hacking techniques such as spear phishing, brute force attacks, credential harvesting, etc. It seems that their goal was to obtain some “sensitive information” concerning the U.S weapons and missile development, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capabilities, vehicle and aircraft design, and command, control, and communications systems.

The alert said:

“The acquired information provides significant insight into the U.S weapons platforms development and deployment timelines, vehicle specifications, and plans for communications infrastructure and information technology. By acquiring proprietary internal documents and email communications, adversaries may be able to adjust their own military plans and priorities, hasten technological development efforts, inform foreign policymakers of U.S intentions, and target potential sources for recruitment.”

In other words, it seems that hackers have obtained really important information.

They vaunted Elon Musk for the work done in changing the electric vehicle industry. By pushing many young consumers and legacy automakers to shift focus to electric vehicles, Tesla was the reason for transforming the industry.

Roula Khalaf, who is the FT’s editor, called Musk a revolutionary in the ER industry and congratulated him for demonstrating how EVs could replace cars which are fueled by gasoline.

The newspaper quoted Musk as saying in an interview:

“For a long time, the rest of the auto industry was basically calling Tesla and me fools and frauds. They were saying electric cars wouldn’t work, you can achieve the range and performance. And even if you did that, nobody would buy them.”

Musk has dominated the headlines and amassed over 66 million followers on Twitter.

Roula Khalaf added:

“For all the eccentric and provocative tweets that strike some as childish, he is one of the most transformational business figures of the era.”

In her opinion, this is the reason the FT is making him its Person of the Year for 2021.

Bosch’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Is Available for Trams  https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/11/10/bosch-s-advanced-driver-assistance-systems-is-available-for-trams/ Wed, 10 Nov 2021 16:07:04 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=74482 ...]]> As tram drivers often experience challenges like commuter traffic or poor visibility, Bosch Engineering has developed Life-saving Advanced Driver Assistance Systems automobile technology, also available for light rail, such as trams. During the American Public Transportation Association #APTAExpo, Nov 8-10, Bosch will showcase the Tram Forward Collision Warning System (TFCW), highlighting the benefits this system provides for cities to help reduce accidents.

In terms of its collision warning system for light rail vehicles, Bosch Engineering relies on components from automotive technology to actively reduce the expensive consequences of accidents or prevent them altogether.

High availability of light rail vehicles

The collision warning system for trams supports drivers in critical situations. When congested traffic or poor visibility conditions occur, the system warns the driver about obstacles on the rails in plenty of time. This lets drivers avoid accidents, or at least significantly limit the effects.

The system consists of a multi-purpose camera, a radar sensor, and a control unit. It monitors the track ahead and any possible obstacles in front of the vehicle in real time. It sends a warning to the driver once it detects a potential collision. Whether the driver responds too late or not at all, the collision warning system can initiate automatic braking.

Detecting critical situations

Life-saving Advanced Driver Assistance Systems’ multi-purpose camera monitors the track ahead and transmits the data in real time to the radar sensor. The radar is independent of weather and light conditions. Its sensor recognizes potential obstacles in front of the vehicle from a distance of up to 80 meters away. Considering the vehicle’s speed, the system uses the information to determine the danger of a collision.

In type 1 of the system, it determines whether the threat, which can be presented by an obstacle that warrants a visual or acoustic warning to the driver. Type 2 of the system sends a signal via relay output to trigger automatic braking, should the driver respond too late or not at all to the system’s warning.
