Water – Devstyler.io https://devstyler.io News for developers from tech to lifestyle Tue, 12 Sep 2023 07:28:50 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.8.5 ChatGPT “Drink” 500 ml Water Every 5 to 50 Questions https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/09/12/chatgpt-drink-500-ml-water-every-5-to-50-questions/ Tue, 12 Sep 2023 07:28:50 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=110879 ...]]> OpenAI’s ChatGPT consumes 500 ml of water for every 5 to 50 questions it answers. That’s according to a study by Shaolei Ren of the University of California at Riverside and researchers at the University of Texas at Arlington, Analytics Insights reports.

According to the report, Microsoft’s global water consumption increased by 34% between 2021 and 2022 as a result of significant investments in artificial intelligence.

In training GPT-3 at Microsoft data centers, it is estimated that 700,000 liters or about 185,000 gallons of fresh water were used. That’s enough water to fill the cooling tower of a nuclear reactor, according to Gizmodo, and the same amount used to produce 370 BMW cars or 320 Tesla cars, according to the study.

Using these calculations, it was determined that ChatGPT would need 500 ml of water for every 5 to 50 questions it answered.

In a very short period of time, generative AI assistants like ChatGPT, Bard, Dall-E and others have managed to become a part of not only the professional lives of many, but have also crept their way into their personal lives. And the touchy subject of whether AI will replace the need for humans still holds a prominent place today.

Small businesses developing advances in AI are also attracting significant investment from IT giants.

Top Ways Tech Leaders Take a Break https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/06/20/top-ways-tech-leaders-take-a-break/ Tue, 20 Jun 2023 11:06:04 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=108127 ...]]> Do you feel stressed during the working day? Taking a leadership position is a responsible task and even more so in the tech industry. Amidst the greatest innovations in the fastest growing world, constant learning and upgrading is an inevitable and imperative process, which is also one of the key requirements to stay in the market as a quality employee.

All this, combined with being in charge of everything and being the leader of a team of colourful people with different personalities becomes an extremely difficult task.

The stress of it all can lead to many negative consequences, such as reduced productivity, poor decision-making, poor work-life balance and even health problems. But there is always a solution. And today, we’ve chosen to introduce you to different ways tech leaders like to relax, according to Insight Global.

Top Ways Tech Leaders Take a Break

Prepare the day before
Before you leave the office for the day, take a few minutes to assess the day ahead. What are your top priorities? When are your meetings? Create a to-do list based on your schedule and projects. This will help release work stress from your brain because you know everything is written down and planned.

Morning routine
When you wake up, don’t immediately check your phone for anything. Social media can be a distraction, and then you end up rushing so you’re not late. Office emails can immediately raise your stress levels when you’ve barely woken up. None of this will help you start your morning off right. Your morning routine can include a short meditation, a quick workout, a healthy breakfast, or anything else that helps you start the day.

Don’t forget the short breaks during the day
It’s important to take breaks during the day, even if you only have a few minutes. This will help you refresh and recharge so you can keep working efficiently. Don’t underestimate the importance of taking a break. If you love your job, remember that to be productive you need to give yourself a minute to breathe every now and then.

Don’t forget to get moving
Don’t be stuck in one place for a long time. If you work from an office, short walks are a must. This will get your blood flowing and improve your mood.

Nature – how important it is
Try to take your breaks outside, whether it’s a quick walk or a casual lunch. The fresh air and sunshine can wake you up and get you unfocused, so you return to work more focused and relaxed. And on weekends, don’t miss out on recharging nature walks. Believe me, it’s the best anti-stress medicine.

More healthy food
A balanced lunch and small healthy snacks during the day can help you maintain your energy and mental focus. Keep snacks like nuts and fruit on your desk so it’s easy to choose healthy foods.

Water, Water, Water
Dehydration can lead to too much fatigue and irritability, so be sure to drink enough water throughout the day. Do you find it difficult to drink plain water? Try flavoring your water with fruit or herbs or drink seltzer water.

Life-inspired system adapts dynamically to the environment https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/12/02/life-inspired-system-adapts-dynamically-to-the-environment/ Fri, 02 Dec 2022 09:52:22 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=95232 ...]]> Researchers at Aalto University and Tampere University have developed a synthetic system that responds to environmental changes in the same way as living organisms, using feedback to maintain its internal conditions.

This makes it possible to create mechanisms that respond dynamically to the environment – an important feature for interactive materials and soft robotics.

“The tissues of living organisms are typically soft, elastic and deformablе. The gels used in our system are similar. They are soft polymers swollen in water, and they can provide a fascinating variety of responses upon environmental stimuli”

says Hang Zhang, an Academy of Finland postdoctoral researcher at Aalto who was one of the lead authors of the study.

Researchers at Aalto University and Tampere University have developed a system of materials that maintains its state in a manner similar to living systems. The new system consists of two side-by-side gels with different properties. Interactions between the gels make the system respond homeostatically to environmental changes, keeping its temperature within a narrow range when stimulated by a laser.

“Like a living system, our homeostatic system is dynamic. The temperature oscillates around the threshold, but the range of the oscillation is pretty small and is robust to outside disturbances. It’s a robust homeostatic system”,

says Hao Zeng, an Academy of Finland research fellow at Tampere University who was the other lead author of the study.

The researchers built touch-responsive triggers on top of the feedback system. To accomplish this, they added mechanical components that respond to changes in temperature. Touching the gel system in the right way pushes it out of its steady state, and the resulting change in temperature causes the mechanical component to deform. Afterwards, everything returns to its original condition.

The researchers also showed how the homeostatic system could control a dynamic colour display or even push cargo along its body. They emphasize that these demonstrations showcase only a handful of the possibilities opened up by the new material concept.

Samsung to Develop Devices with Recycled Fishing Nets https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/02/08/samsung-to-develop-devices-with-recycled-fishing-nets/ Tue, 08 Feb 2022 11:41:38 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=80694 ...]]> Samsung Electronics announced plans for developing a new material that gives ocean-bound plastics new life as they’re incorporated into various Galaxy devices. It is made with repurposed ocean-bound discarded fishing nets.

According to the company, these ‘ghost nets’ are responsible for trapping and entangling marine life, damaging coral reefs and natural habitats and even ending up in our food and water sources. In a news release Samsung said:

“These discarded fishing nets are disrupting the delicate balance of our environment at an alarming rate. Collecting and repurposing these nets are vital first steps in keeping our oceans clean as well as preserving the planet and our collective future.”

It’s unclear exactly what part the repurposed plastics play in the upcoming handsets. For more information we’ll have to wait until this week’s virtual Unpacked event, where Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S22 series and Tab S8, told PCMag.

SpaceX Will Take CO2 From The Atmosphere https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/16/spacex-will-take-co2-from-the-atmosphere/ Thu, 16 Dec 2021 08:40:43 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=76816 ...]]> Elon Musk announced his rocket company SpaceX is planning to start a program in order to take CO2 out of the atmosphere and turn it into rocket fuel.

The billionaire entrepreneur tweeted that the technology will “also be important for Mars”. On Monday, Musk published on the social media:

“SpaceX is starting a program to take CO2 out of atmosphere & turn it into rocket fuel. Please join if interested”.

The statement came days after the SpaceX and Tesla founder was named Time magazine’s person of the year.

A “clown, genius, edgelord, visionary, industrialist, showman” in its piece – that’s how the magazine called him.

The Financial Times newspaper also named him as their person of the year on Wednesday.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos was surpassed by Musk`s nomination as the world’s wealthiest person this year.

There is currently no further information on the carbon capture plans from SpaceX.

It is not yet clear how SpaceX would capture carbon and turn it into rocket fuel. Scientific processes do exist, such as the one used by Canadian company Carbon Engineering, which is making liquid fuel with carbon dioxide from the atmosphere which is then combined with hydrogen from water.
