Week – Devstyler.io https://devstyler.io News for developers from tech to lifestyle Mon, 14 Aug 2023 06:47:14 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.5 End of the Home Office Era: Amazon Bringing Employees Back to the Office? https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/08/14/end-of-the-home-office-era-amazon-bringing-employees-back-to-the-office/ Mon, 14 Aug 2023 06:47:14 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=110064 ...]]> Amazon employees in the US have received a warning email from the company claiming they are not spending enough time in the office after their presence was tracked, the BBC reports.

Amazon isn’t the first tech giant to seek to bring employees back into the office and depart from the homeworking trend that buzzed past the pandemic a few years ago.

Disney has already done this, and this recent Zoom order also ended the home office era.

Amazon’s decision to have employees in the office at least three days a week went into effect back in May, but it still seems to be a tough one to achieve.

According to the BBC, the email sent by the company makes it clear that this refers to employees who have come into the office less than three days a week for five or more of the last eight weeks or for three or more of the last four weeks.

It appears to have exacerbated existing tensions within the company, as some staff have said they received the email in error.

Volkswagen Fires All Its Top Managers? https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/08/04/volkswagen-fires-all-its-top-managers/ Fri, 04 Aug 2023 06:47:01 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=109753 ...]]> Volkswagen will lay off all members of the executive board of its Cariad software division next week, Gadgets Now writes. The drastic measures are an attempt to resolve development issues.

The subdivision, which was set up under former VW chief executive Herbert Diess, went over budget and failed to meet its targets, contributing to Diess’ departure, with Oliver Blume taking his post in September last year.

Cariad’s supervisory board is expected to adopt the decision on the cuts at a meeting next week. It is possible that only the head of the personnel department, Rainer Zugehor, will keep his job.

A company spokesperson said it was analyzing Cariad and its projects.

No personnel decisions have been made yet. And problems at Cariad have delayed work on the latest Porsche e-Macan and Audi Q6 e-tron car models.

Bitcoin Price Slumps Because of Kazakhstan? https://devstyler.io/blog/2022/01/10/bitcoin-price-slumps-because-of-kazakhstan/ Mon, 10 Jan 2022 11:29:47 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=78509 ...]]> Bitcoin shed as much as eight per cent and tumbled under $41,000 (€36,000) as investors sold off their cryptos. That happened in part due to the Kazakhstan crisis but also because of the minutes released by the US central bank showing it would tighten monetary policy.

Netblocks said Internet disruption in Kazakhstan continued on a nationwide scale as of Friday morning, with national connectivity observed at just 5 percent of ordinary levels.

The sudden raised energy price is the reason for the ongoing disruptions and widening protests  in the western town of Zhanaozen.

Kazakhstan’s government has tried to tighten rules on mining in recent months in an effort to decarbonise the economy. The country recently implemented a law to introduce extra taxes from crypto mining that will take effect this year.

In a post on Twitter, Kazakh miner Didar Bekbau said:

“Yes, no internet, so no mining…Hopefully next week everything will be ok”.

Some miners are optimistic the political storm will blow over.

Bitcoin Falls By 29%  https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/06/bitcoin-falls-by-29/ Mon, 06 Dec 2021 09:09:38 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=76076 ...]]> Bitcoin shed nearly a third of its value on Saturday. The reason was the combination of profit-taking and macro-economic concerns triggered nearly a billion dollars worth of selling across cryptocurrencies.

The plunge follows a volatile week for financial markets. Global equities and benchmark US bond yields tumbled on Friday after data showed US job growth slowed in November and the Omicron variant of the coronavirus kept investors on edge.

Bitcoin was 12 per cent down at 9.20 GMT at $47,495 (€41,980.83). It fell as low as $41,967.50 (€37,095.07) during the session, taking total losses for the day to 22 per cent.

By 22.01 GMT, it had rebounded slightly to $48,752.15 (€43,092.03) having lost $4,991.54 (€4,412.02) from its previous close.

The broad selloff in cryptocurrencies also saw Ether, the coin linked to the Ethereum blockchain network, plunge more than 10 per cent.

It rebounded to losses of 3.61 per cent to $4,070.52 (€3,597.93), losing $152.28 (€134.60) from its previous close.
