Earlier this year, the company released its first feature update for Windows 11 – “Moment 5.” However, it failed to generate much interest.

The full list of new features in version 24H2 of Windows 11 is not yet complete, but some of the changes that will occur in the operating system are clear. Today we will present to you 5 of them, which according to Neowin are worth your attention. In addition to this, some of those listed will appear before version 24H2.

Use your phone as a webcam

Windows 11 will let you use your Android smartphone as a wireless webcam. Modern phones have great cameras, and even expensive webcams often can’t match their capabilities. Future Windows updates will make it possible to use different cameras in your smartphones to make video calls on a computer, apply additional effects (such as HDR), and more.

Windows 11 will offer a dedicated window with all controls and additional information such as connection status and battery level. Currently, the ability to use Android smartphones as webcams with Windows 11 PCs is available to all Windows Insiders with the Link to Windows app version 1.24012.

Deeper Copilot integration

Copilot in Windows still seems like a huge afterthought with a very limited set of actually useful Windows-related features. Fortunately, Microsoft is making its new AI assistant more capable in terms of interacting with the hardware. Copilot is expected to be able to scan for Wi-Fi networks, display device information, report battery level, toggle battery saving, clean some memory, take screenshots, interact with accessibility features, and more.

Built-in QR code generator

Although at first glance this seems like a not-so-important feature, it can make the operating system more convenient. This future Windows update will allow you to generate QR codes when sharing links, making transferring websites from computer to phone much easier. You won’t have to email links to yourself or wait for Microsoft Edge to sync your history.

Save energy

Microsoft is working on expanding the existing power-saving module to more devices, namely desktops, which traditionally don’t rely on rechargeable batteries. The new energy saver is expected to trade more performance for battery life and allow you to reduce power consumption as you reach a certain battery life.

More lock screen widgets

The lock screen in Windows 11 will soon show more useful information. As you know, the current version allows you to place the weather widget, and future updates will add more options such as stocks, traffic, sports games, and more. This part is optional and you will be able to use the traditional and clean lock screen on your PC.

“CrossfireX” and “Knockout City” – The New Names of the Games That Will Soon be Stopped https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/06/crossfirex-and-knockout-city-the-new-names-of-the-games-that-will-soon-be-stopped/ Mon, 06 Feb 2023 09:37:28 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=100318 ...]]> Tough times are coming for fans of several games with live service, which are titles destined to be permanently updated over a long period of time. Several of them will be shut down in the near future, and CrossfireX and Knockout City are among the latest to join the list.

CrossfireX is the Xbox console version of the massively popular tactical shooter Crossfire. After some delay, it appeared less than a year ago, but was neither a hit with critics nor, more importantly, the public, Engadget wrote on the subject.

Developer Smilegate has stopped selling the game (the multiplayer component is free-to-play, but the single-player campaign, developed by Remedy, is not) and is offering refunds on purchases made in the last two weeks. The company will shut down CrossfireX’s servers on May 18.

Meanwhile, Knockout City is a fun dodgeball game that debuts in 2021. It became free-to-play last year when developer Velan Studios parted ways with EA to release it independently. Alas, Knockout City is also being shut down.

It’s hard to make a successful game, let alone one that requires players to stick with it for a long period of time. Major players like Fortnite, Apex Legends (the console and PC version), Valorant, Overwatch 2, and Genshin Impact won’t be showing up anytime soon. All the developers are competing with each other and anything else that can grab people’s attention. Even though there are more than 3 billion gamers, there are only so many games with live service that the market can support.

New GitHub Feature Makes Security Flaw Discovery Easier https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/01/12/new-github-feature-makes-security-flaw-discovery-easier/ Thu, 12 Jan 2023 08:39:19 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=98177 ...]]> GitHub now allows developers to scan their code for the “default setting” repository, which will help them detect potential security issues before they grow.

According to Github, with this new feature, developers will be able to configure the repository automatically and with as little effort as possible. It eases the work involved in scanning code in Python, JavaScript, and Ruby repositories.

Code scanning on GitHub is done using the CodeQL engine, and while it supports a wide variety of compilers, the feature is currently only available for Python, JavaScript, and Ruby. GitHub’s Walker Chabot says this will change very soon as the company looks to expand support to additional languages and will aim to have this in place by the summer.

Once “Enable CodeQL” is enabled the feature will automatically start looking for flaws in the repository.

The official GitHub blog also says that code scanning is free for everyone, and that enterprise users can also take advantage of it through the GitHub Advanced Security for GitHub Enterprise service.

Android 12’s Final Beta is Coming Soon https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/09/09/android-12-s-final-beta-is-coming-soon/ Thu, 09 Sep 2021 10:09:09 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=69976 ...]]> Android’s update is almost here. It will be available to the public in a few weeks. To prepare for the stable release of Android 12, Google released a final beta build to let users offer last-minute feedback. Like the previous beta release, Android 12 Beta 5 features finalized SDK and NDK APIs, app-facing system behaviors, app-facing surfaces, and restrictions on non-SDK interfaces, so it’s time for developers to get their apps ready for the new OS.

The final beta update is also a release candidate build, which means this build should graduate to stable status. The stable release is still a few weeks away, according to Google, so there’s still time for them to catch any bugs that arise following today’s release.

You can download Android 12 Beta 5 today on all compatible Pixel phones, including the newly released Pixel 5a. Google’s web page provides links to all of the Android 12 Beta programs run by other smartphone makers, such as Sharp.
