Amazon cut hundreds of jobs at streaming services Prime Video and Twitch, among others, last month and last year, NL Times reported.

“I have no plans to adjust the Prime team,” Jamil Ghani said during a visit to the Netherlands for an internal conference.

Amazon cut hundreds of jobs at Prime Video last month, explaining that it was taking those measures to cut costs. At Twitch, 35% of jobs were cut, which is about 500 employees.

Maintaining a streaming platform is expensive, and Twitch still doesn’t make enough.

Last year, the company suffered increasingly large job cuts – 18,000 in January and another 9,000 in March.

“There has been generous support from all team members around the world and many people on the Prime team have returned to Amazon in other roles. The team has been very supportive, including myself,” Jamil Ghani said.

He adds that the company finds it difficult to lay off employees and it is the last thing it wants to resort to, but sometimes circumstances do not allow any other choice.

In the last quarter of last year, the company employed more than 1.5 million people. That’s 1% fewer employees than in the final three months of 2022.

In the Netherlands, Amazon officials said the tech company had about 1,250 employees in August, including at its Dutch headquarters in Amsterdam. Amazon says no jobs have been lost at Prime in the Netherlands.

However, Amazon is not the only major company to cut many jobs recently to save costs. Tech giant Microsoft, for example, laid off 1,900 people within the company’s video game division.

eBay also eliminated about 9% of its jobs, which is about 1,000 employees.

Music Industry Trend: Prices Rising, Amazon Music Unlimited Getting More Expensive https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/08/16/music-industry-trend-prices-rising-amazon-music-unlimited-getting-more-expensive/ Wed, 16 Aug 2023 07:13:09 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=110123 ...]]> The price of Amazon Music Unlimited is going up once again, affecting even people who pay for a Prime subscription, The Verge reports.

According to Variety and The Hollywood Reporter, the price of Amazon Music Unlimited’s individual plan for Prime members will rise from $8.99 to $9.99 per month. The price of the family plan will also go up, increasing from $15.99 to $16.99 per month.

The annual individual plan is expected to cost $99 per year and the family plan is expected to cost $169 per year.

Amazon spokeswoman Rebecca Silverstein tells The Verge that new customers will start seeing the new price “plus applicable taxes” next week. And those who already have a subscription will see the new price on their first bill “on or after” September 19.

We remind you that earlier this year Amazon increased the price of the Amazon Music Unlimited service for people who are not subscribed to Prime.

Raising service prices is a new trend among music companies, with Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube Premium and Tidal also changing their prices to higher ones in the past few months.

Twitch banned an Amazon Prime Video Channel after a Disclosure of a breast on Air https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/12/21/twitch-banned-an-amazon-prime-video-channel-after-a-disclosure-of-a-breast-on-air/ Tue, 21 Dec 2021 13:22:33 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=77224 ...]]> An Amazon Prime Video channel was banned soon after a presenter coincidently showed her breast during a live show. Twitch suspended the official Spanish-language Prime Video on Sunday, without giving a public reason. Twitch has strict rules when it comes to partial or full nudity on camera.

The service’s community guidelines say:

“For those who present as women, we ask that you cover your nipples. We do not permit exposed underbust,”

Also, it does not permit “sexually suggestive content” such as a camera focus on “breasts, buttocks, or pelvic region”.

The Esto es un Late hosts were about to end their weekend stream when Henar Alvarez, a comedian, lifted up her shirt partway, joking that it was one way to end the long broadcast.  While laughing she said:

“We’re about to be banned. Come on. They’re going to ban us!”

What happened after that?

Actually, for a moment, the stream cut to a title card but it was fastly returned to the live feed before Ms Alvarez’s breast vanished from view. Within a few hours later, the channel was banned from Twitch. Also, one of the co-hosts – Mister Jagger tweeted that the show is the “best programme in the world”.

As we know, Twitch was a video game streaming site but as time passes by, it became an all-purpose platform. However, it had some problems over the year with sexually suggestive content.

India to ban almost all private cryptocurrencies  https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/11/24/india-to-ban-almost-all-private-cryptocurrencies/ Wed, 24 Nov 2021 09:29:10 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=75365 ...]]> All but a few private cryptocurrencies will be banned in India. This became clear after the government announced on Tuesday it was introducing a new financial regulation bill.

The ‘Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency’s bill goal is to create a facilitative framework for an official digital currency. It will  be issued by the Reserve Bank of India, and ban all private cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said earlier this month all democratic nations must work together to ensure cryptocurrency “does not end up in the wrong hands, which can spoil our youth”.

The law is due to be presented to parliament in the next session. Without providing further details, the parliament bulletin said It will allow exceptions to promote the underlying blockchain technology.

The government considered criminalising the possession, issuance, mining, trading and transference of crypto-assets earlier this year.
