Neda Vacheva is the Director of Consumer Delivery in Paysafe’s product team, with over 10 years of experience in program and project management in the fintech sector. She leads a global team of program managers responsible for the execution of key B2C products and initiatives. Her role sits at the intersection of the product, technical, and business teams, connecting the vision and strategy behind the products (“why”) with the actual execution (“how”). She is inspired by the opportunity to bring people with different perspectives together around a common goal and create synergy – not just because they “have to,” but because they find purpose in it.

What skills do you think are most important for successfully working in a global company with teams from all across the globe?

The most important thing is to communicate clearly, keeping in mind cultural differences and ensuring that everyone understands the same thing. It may sound simple, but it can be a real challenge in a global team.

I have often heard “yes, I understand,” and days later realized that the person was embarrassed to admit a lack of understanding and was hoping to just figure it out later Agreement doesn’t always mean true understanding. I have learned to always seek confirmation and to create an atmosphere where everybody is comfortable to ask for further clarification. This is not because of mistrust, but out of respect for the complexity of the environment in which we work.

For me, successful communication also means sensing cultural nuances. “That’s interesting,” said by a British colleague may actually mean “I completely disagree, but I don’t want to argue” While the 5-minute informal “How are you, what are you doing this weekend?” in Latin America is not just politeness, but an important part of the meeting.

In my opinion, the key skills are:

  • Clear communication of goals and expectations – what we want to achieve, when, who is responsible, how we will measure success. This should be a shared understanding, not just a polished presentation slide.
  • Cultural adaptability and flexibility – knowing when to create a personal connection and when to return to the structure of the conversation. An approach that works for one culture may be incomprehensible or even off-putting in another.
  • Trust and delegation – building trust from a distance is difficult but crucial. Good leaders know when to get involved and when to give space.

How do you organize communication and working hours with colleagues in different countries? Are there any cultural or work-related specifics that you take into account?

We currently work mainly with teams from Europe, the US, and Latin America – three time zones, three different rhythms. I structure my time so that I have slots for each location, avoiding extreme hours and relying heavily on asynchronous coordination. We actively use AI, which automatically facilitates meetings outside working hours, and the next morning we receive summarised decisions and next steps. To a large extent, this gives us a sense of participation without actually having to be physically “in the room.”

There are cultural differences, and they are mainly felt in communication – in the US, they prefer short and structured meetings, while for Latin Americans, personal connection and the “first five minutes” of the conversation are important. The British are famously diplomatic, while Bulgarians, in contrast, are super direct. Diversity is both the challenge and the charm of working in a global environment.

Can you recall a situation where cultural differences led to a misunderstanding? How did you overcome it?

I wouldn’t say that cultural differences in themselves lead to misunderstandings. Rather, it’s a lack of clarity. When teams know why they are involved in a particular project, what problem they are solving and for whom, and responsibilities are clearly assigned, then location doesn’t matter.

Yes, there are cultural peculiarities, but they carry enormous potential for innovation, as long as we perceive them not as differences but as additions. Diversity brings energy and vitality.

What are the biggest advantages of working in a multicultural environment? How does it enrich you professionally and personally?

The biggest advantage is that you step out of your own ” bubble” and realize that there is no one truth – there are many ways to achieve good results.

Working in a global team has taught me to listen more, to ask questions instead of making assumptions, and not to take my own perspective as the measure of the world.

Professionally, I believe this makes me a better leader. Personally, it has made me a more curious person.

How do you maintain a sense of teamwork and belonging when working with people you rarely see in person?

Face-to-face meetings are difficult to replace, but you can build trust and a sense of closeness even from a distance. I personally believe in the power of small things– helping without being asked, sending a GIF at just the right moment when someone needs a break. It is also important that meetings are not always simply focused on metrics but that there is space for conversations on a more personal level, talking about favorite places, experiences, hobbies. From virtual cafes to online toasts – there are many options, as long as there is a desire.

What best practices would you share with someone who is going to work in an international team for the first time?

Above all, listen more than you speak. Don’t make assumptions. Ask questions if you don’t understand the context – you’ll be surprised how often others don’t understand the same thing. Be punctual and respect other people’s time. Use video whenever possible. And most importantly, be yourself – people can sense when you’re being sincere, and that’s what builds trust.

Over 75% of parents want law to approve apps kids download https://devstyler.io/blog/2024/01/11/over-75-of-parents-want-law-to-approve-apps-kids-download/ Thu, 11 Jan 2024 12:40:49 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=117390 ...]]> On behalf of Meta, Morning Consult conducted a nationwide survey of US parents of children under 18 to find out what they thought about creating a law for mandatory parental approval when children under 16 download apps.

The survey also aimed to determine which of the two ways – “App Store” or “Apps” is safer and easier for parents to give their approval.

Here are the survey results:

The majority of survey participants (79%) support the idea of creating a law that requires parents’ prior approval when their children download a particular app.

– Four in five parents (79%) support a law that requires parental approval for children under 16 before downloading apps.

This legislation is supported by two types of parents – parents with Democratic views (81%) and parents with Republican views (79%).

Meta Morning Consult polled parents in the survey and asked what the most appropriate age is for their children (some of them already teenagers) to download an app of their choice without needing the approval of at least one of both parents.

Parents in the US share a common opinion

Responses were again similar to previous ones with 55% of parents supporting the idea that under-16s should not be allowed to download apps without parental permission.

Parents with Democratic views, 54%, and parents with Republican views, 56%, are also united in the idea of prior approval from at least one parent before a minor can download the app they want.

Over 75% of parents prefer using app stores as a more convenient and secure option for approving app downloads for their children.

When asked about the easiest method for parental approval of their child’s app usage, 76% of parents favor a centralized approach, such as using an app store, while only 24% find it easier to approve apps individually after downloading.

This preference for a unified approval process holds true across political affiliations:

  • Democratic-leaning parents: 76% prefer approval in one place (e.g., app store)
  • Republican-leaning parents: 77% prefer approval in one place (e.g., app store)

Furthermore, a significant majority (76%) of parents trust app stores over individual apps to securely handle the necessary personal data for verifying parental approval. In contrast, only 24% express trust in the apps themselves.

This trust in app stores is consistent among both Democratic-leaning and Republican-leaning parents:

  • Democratic-leaning parents: 77% trust app stores
  • Republican-leaning parents: 75% trust app stores

What is your opinion on the subject? Do you approve of the creation of a parental approval law for the downloading of apps by children under the age of 16? Email us at [email protected].

Truebit Expands Capabilities Beyond Traditional Blockchain with New Platform https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/11/08/truebit-expands-capabilities-beyond-traditional-blockchain-with-new-platform/ Wed, 08 Nov 2023 07:06:10 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=113450 ...]]> Truebit announced its new platform specializing in improving the functionality and interoperability of Web3 enterprise applications by expanding capabilities beyond traditional blockchains.

“The rapidly evolving need for verified computation is becoming critical in areas where risk exceeds the ability to trust, such as public APIs, regulated industries, and core financial controls. As demands on the enterprise to work more collaboratively with trading partners and customers increase, Web3 technology provides the transparent proof needed,” commented Dr. Jason Teutsch, founder of Truebit.

Truebit’s integration framework allows developers to read and write code to any API, deploy applications iteratively and quickly, optimize workflow, and improve security, data integrity, and process transparency.

Truebit Verify leverages decentralization to enable developers to create applications that interact with multiple data sources, including blockchains, and verifiably execute complex code.

By leveraging Truebit Verify, developers can secure the 99 percent of application logic that executes offchain. Developers can write code in familiar languages, deploy applications iteratively and quickly optimize their workflow.

Web3 Beyond Blockchains
While Web3 technology is often associated with cryptocurrencies and NFTs, it has the potential to revolutionize enterprise computing. A new generation of infrastructure is emerging which leverages consensus, verification, and transparency to address rapidly evolving challenges in computing. The factors driving a shift to hybrid, multi-cloud infrastructures are the same forces underlying Web3: security, reliability, risk mitigation, portability, interoperability, and cost control. According to IDC, within the next 5 years, 80 percent of enterprises will be part of industry ecosystems that rely on decentralized Web3 code.

“From creating a more secure and transparent digital environment to enhancing operational efficiency and user empowerment, Web3 offers vast potential in promoting transparency, trust, and data security. As more enterprise organizations keep critical data in private and protected places, stored in blockchain and other types of distributed ledgers, a rising share of applications will run using smart contracts that all stakeholders can transparently view, verify, and agree to”, said Holger Mueller, vice president and principal analyst, Constellation Research.

Leading Innovation in Transparent Verification
Truebit has built the next generation of transparent verification to make Web3 development accessible, reliable, and possible for real world applications. The Truebit platform provides a secure way for developers to create interoperable Web3 applications that go beyond blockchains. Truebit Verify validates application data processed by external sources and provides portable certification. Features include:

  • Web3 Microservices – Truebit secures critical offchain code. Truebit Tasks are always-on, accessible from a standard REST interface, and ready to support an applications’ event-driven architecture.
  • Language Compatibility – Truebit Verify provides out-of-the box support for JavaScript, Rust, C++ and is extensible to any language supported by WebAssembly (Wasm).
  • Secure, Fast Execution – Truebit Verify’s Wasm architecture provides a fully isolated sandbox for safe execution of off-ledger tasks. Wasm’s compact footprint provides immediate availability of code across any of Truebit’s Nodes, enabling instant response times.
API Integration – Truebit Tasks can read and write data from public and private APIs while providing fully verified operations for any data transformations or calculations.
  • Cross-Blockchain Operations – Copy data and transfer assets between ledgers with rules and validation specifically tailored to an application’s needs. Truebit Verify provides a safe, neutral environment for execution of cross-chain code.
  • Continuous Verification – Multiple, independent Nodes automatically verify each task. Truebit verify ensures that the code written is the same as the code executed and that no one has altered the processing of task inputs.
  • Audit Trail – Each portable transcript certifies permanent evidence of task execution. Transcripts can be easily linked to ledger transactions, or can be used entirely off ledger to provide transparent audit trails.

“With the re-architecting of cloud environments to accommodate the shift to hybrid and multi-cloud infrastructure, Web3 naturally emerges as the next evolution of the compute we rely on today — from VMs to containers to serverless functions. The future of enterprise computing lies in harnessing the power of Web3 to build automated, distributed ecosystems beyond the confines of individual organizations”, said Blane Sims, head of product, Truebit.

Truebit in Action
Truebit’s mission is to provide a trustless solution for builders and data owners to certify truth so they can prove the integrity of data, systems and organizations to others. The company’s team of experts work together with customers and technologists to build innovative, real-world applications, including:

  • The Quadrans Foundation provides blockchain technology to trace and digitally authenticate food and textile products, enabling a transparent, safe, and reliable supply chain ecosystem. As part of the TRICK Consortium, Quadrans leverages Truebit to achieve TRICK’s development goals by providing transparent and tamper-proof tracking to reduce fraud and enable interoperability across data systems, including multiple blockchains and accounting systems. Truebit creates a single source of transparent truth with an audit trail of transcripts certifying task execution.
  • A financial services company needs to provide a full audit trail of KYC identity validation and AI-based fraud detection. Truebit provides a certified transcript of identity validation services provided by a third-party, verified integration with AI/ML-based algorithms that monitor transactions for suspicious activities, including independent verification to ensure smart contracts function as intended and trades settle accurately, and certifies data reported to investors and regulators (e.g. financial statements) are correct.
  • A group of major recording artists are developing a platform that will transparently calculate and distribute royalties to downstream stakeholders that own a minority stake in songs, will use Truebit Verify to: source data from authentic origins (any streaming platform) for precise royalty calculations, calculate royalties based on verifiable metrics such as downloads, listens, and views, automatically pay royalties through payment services APIs and generate a certificate of correctness for every transaction.

Trust the Developers to Do Excellent with their Role https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/10/26/trust-the-developers-to-do-excellent-with-their-role/ Thu, 26 Oct 2023 07:48:06 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=112587 ...]]> In the world of software development, the value of developers’ skills is widely recognized, but finding these in-demand professionals remains a challenging endeavor. The demand for software developers is soaring, yet the supply falls short.

The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped the priorities of many in the field. Now, developers are increasingly seeking workplaces that offer flexible hours, remote work opportunities, and more accommodating environments. They are no longer hesitant to explore new horizons in pursuit of work arrangements that align with their preferences.

At some of the world’s most prominent tech companies, the average tenure of developers is less than two years. When they depart, they often carry with them valuable code, customer contact lists, patent applications, and a host of other assets. This trend carries a hefty price, especially for senior developers and team leaders, as they must contend with the constant allure of alternative opportunities in the field.

In today’s fiercely competitive business landscape, one of the most effective ways to create a workplace where developers thrive and, in turn, to keep them content is straightforward: Trust them to excel in their roles.

This trust forms the cornerstone of a supportive environment where developers not only feel empowered to voice their ideas but also comfortable doing so, even if those ideas run against the grain. Leaders bear the responsibility of cultivating an atmosphere that upholds these values, alongside the task of recruiting individuals who can thrive within this framework. Sometimes, this means selecting candidates who may not be the obvious choice but who can contribute to a culture of trust and innovation.

Even dumb ideas can be valuable
The encouragement of idea-sharing among individuals can cultivate a atmosphere of trust and innovation, ultimately leading to an explosion in creativity. This collaborative spirit doesn’t just supercharge innovation but also strengthens organizations by reduced employee stress—a critical factor in combating burnout and reducing turnover rates.

Employees have long felt like replaceable components in the company and on the work market rather than as unique individuals with valuable expertise and their own set of limitations. Consequently, nurturing a culture that embraces human authenticity demands deliberate and intentional efforts.

Finding the right tools for success
One of the essential strategies for fostering a positive corporate culture lies in attraction employees with the right tools. This is particularly crucial when considering the extensive responsibilities managed by today’s developers, especially those in teams that have adopted DevOps best practices. It comes as no surprise that many developers are actively seeking tools that can streamline time-consuming tasks such as project onboarding, feature planning, and code review, allowing them to redirect their efforts toward actual development.

As it stands, developers currently allocate more than half of their working hours to reading code. But what if we could trim that time investment by 20 percent or even 40 percent? The potential impact on businesses would be nothing short of transformative. If software developers could devote 40 percent of their time to other critical tasks, it could bring about a substantial boost in productivity and innovation.

However, it’s important to note that productivity tools are not without their caveats. In some cases, organizations employ technology to extract maximum productivity from their developers, which, instead of empowering them, can send a different message. And developers feel they are not productive and good enough at what they do.

The need for developers is everywhere, and their pay will continue to rise. So while some turnover is inevitable, much of it can be avoided if you purposefully create and maintain a supportive work environment. And the creative energy you foster will help bring product innovation to fruition.

Dating Apps: The Perfect Place to Look for Love? https://devstyler.io/blog/2023/02/14/dating-apps-the-perfect-place-to-look-for-love/ Tue, 14 Feb 2023 12:55:46 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=101252 ...]]> Valentine’s Day is definitely one of the most talked about holidays. Anticipated by many and denied by even more, the Day of Love has completely changed today, thanks to the digitalized world that increasingly engulfs our lives.

It’s no secret that online dating is seen as trendy today, while physical contact and meeting a possible future mate in person is now ‘old-‘ to say the least. But whether everyone agrees with this and how technology affects the love life of me, you and all of us, we will find out in the next few lines. Stay with us.

Katie Koduto – The Lady Who Knows Everything About Online Love
The Brink introduces us to Katie Koduto – Associate Professor of Media Studies at Boston University’s College of Communication. She studies how people use media to connect with each other and make sense of the world around them. And lately, her focus has turned to a taboo topic – dating apps.

“I’m curious about how people use dating apps and what their expectations are when they use them – what are they trying to get out of these connections?”

Katie tells The Brink.

The Brink// Katy Coduto, a BU College of Communication assistant professor of media science.

Did you know?
The associate professor of media studies recently helped design a national study looking at the impact of apps in people’s love relationships. The latest Media and Technology Survey, conducted by Ipsos, shows that while most people don’t trust everything they see on dating apps (60% of respondents agree that most people lie on dating apps), a significant portion of the population still believes in their power to find partners: 41% agree that people can find their soulmates on dating apps.

The results of the survey, based on the attitudes and opinions of 1,000 US adults, show the mass adoption of a relatively new technology. Koduto was working as a researcher and strategist at an advertising agency when Tinder really took off. She found the concept interesting, and then her friends started using it, according to The Brink.

“That was really the moment of mass adoption. Grindr was first on the scene, but in terms of numbers Tinder really provided the spark. Suddenly heterosexual people could meet online without being on their computers – they could just do it from their phones.”

She tells Medium.

The euphoria around Tinder
Katie also gives her take on the much-hyped Tinder which has quickly become the most downloaded dating app in the world, with 64 million downloads last year alone. She also talks about the new apps that have sprung up since Tinder, namely Hinge, an app that advertises itself as “made to be deleted” – a promising slogan for those looking for personal connections. Bumble, on the other hand, reverses stereotypes that have been entrenched for as long as the world has known – women should make the first move.

Not everything is so rosy…
The relative ease with which people can browse dozens of potential partners and send messages en masse has also changed the way people meet, says Koduto. But not everything looks so rosy. Online dating apps harbor their own dangers. They can also lead to an over-reliance on online platforms for social connections, especially among people who are already prone to social anxiety or loneliness.

The world outside your comfort zone can be bitter, but it can also be very sweet
In a paper published in 2019, Koduto and other researchers found that people who fear or lack confidence in face-to-face communication prefer online social interactions, including online dating. But do online dating apps do a disservice to these types of people? Isn’t it about time that shy, vulnerable and self-conscious people stepped out of their comfort zone and realised that the world outside is not so scary after all. On the contrary, it can be surprisingly pleasant and sweet.

“By trying to avoid maintaining a solitary network, lonely people may actually isolate themselves even further while looking for a romantic partner,”

the researchers found.

As Koduto continues her research, there’s something that comes up again and again among the hundreds of people she’s interviewed: sexting. It turns out that sending and receiving text messages or photos with sexual content is as universal in the online dating world as creating a profile.

Obscene photos with sexual content – do values have a place here?
Due to the many accounts of indecent photos with nude content, Koduto turns his attention to this. Why do people send texts and photos with sexual overtones? What, if anything, do they expect to receive in return?

Privacy
She is curious about people’s expectations of privacy when sending such sensitive messages. Koduto is still in the early stages of this research, but says she’s also seen differences between demographic groups. Members of Generation Z, for whom dating apps have almost always been ubiquitous, are more likely to experiment with them, compared to those who were introduced to dating apps as teens or young adults (Tinder launched in 2012).

She also says there are also significant differences in the ways heterosexual people use dating apps compared to LGBTQ+ people, especially when it comes to expectations of privacy. Heterosexual people may search online for a same-sex romantic partner before coming out to someone in person, which adds an extra layer of privacy to the messages they send and receive.

“There’s a feeling that it’s safer to use an app like Grindr than trying to meet people in person at first. That’s an important difference in behavior.”

she continued.

Is true love the old-fashioned way of dating?
Koduto has a lot of future research ahead of her related to dating apps that are widespread in society. As for her own life, however, you won’t find Tinder, Hinge or Bumble on her phone. Koduto met her fiancé in person, the “old-fashioned” way that is extremely rare today, unfortunately.

A brand for Diamonds Launches Website to Bring Artificial Intelligence to Traditional Retailing https://devstyler.io/blog/2021/11/15/a-brand-for-diamonds-launches-website-to-bring-artificial-intelligence-to-traditional-retailing/ Mon, 15 Nov 2021 17:17:05 +0000 https://devstyler.io/?p=74745 ...]]> Rare & Forever, a brand of natural diamonds that are hand-selected for their highest quality and consistency, has just announced the launch of its new website, which will be designed to bring transparency, authenticity, and trust to diamond buying.

Rare & Forever is changing the diamond industry by offering authorized retail jewellers more accurate, unbiased grading utilizing Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). The company leverages a proprietary screening process to identify the Brown, Green, and Milky (BGM) hues that devalue a diamond and detract from its sparkle. This website will empower jewellers to show consumers exactly what they are buying and offer a completely transparent experience.

Chris Croteau, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Rare and Forever, a division of RDI Diamonds Inc in New York, commented:

“Traditional diamond buying has been mystified by inauthentic sales processes, inaccurate and inconsistent grading reports, and a focus on paper versus beauty and quality. Rare & Forever is changing the approach by providing authorized jewellers with new technology and services that give customers exactly what they want—transparent advice, knowledgeable expertise, and access to the world’s most accurately graded diamonds. Our enhanced website makes it easy for buyers to see the unbiased difference A.I. brings to grading and takes the friction out of the consultation process so customers know what they are getting and trust that it is superior to anything they can find on the Internet.”

Bringing Authenticity and Trust

The diamond industry has long focused customers’ attention on the Four Cs of a diamond represented in confusing grading reports and certificates. Nearly 99% of diamonds are graded based on human opinion and reports do not disclose imperfections such as BGM hues that detract from the quality. This leads to inconsistent and inaccurate representations. It can also confuse customers and cause mistrust.

Rare & Forever now shifts the diamond business back to local diamond experts providing customers access to the highest quality diamonds that are prescreened for imperfections and graded with A.I. technology. Purchasing from a local small business, rather than a large online retailer, enables buyers to view their diamond in person or via a virtual visit. This method provides diamond education from a knowledgeable, trustworthy source, and establishes a relationship for future jewellery purchases, repairs and cleanings.

Enhanced Rare & Forever Website

The Rare & Forever website applies this new approach to the diamond market, helping consumers gain peace of mind and confidence in their jewellery purchases. Features of the website include:

  • Expert Consultations
Consumers can enter their zip codes and be matched with the closest Rare & Forever retailer so they can see the diamonds in person (or through a virtual visit) and benefit from the knowledge and expertise that only a well-qualified, authorized Rare & Forever jeweller can provide.
  • Education–Beyond the 4C’s of Grading
Animation to help consumers understand how A.I. technology is replacing antiquated grading methods, utilized by online sellers.
  • Live Rare Community
Rare & Forever strives to create a community of new adopters that buy diamonds that are graded based on unbiased innovation. This community will help potential buyers identify idea concepts for proposals and for celebrating life’s most important milestones.

Rare & Forever offer an Upgrade for Life Program that guarantees buyers the value of their purchase and facilitates upgrade purchases.

The real challenge, no matter what your gender is, is to prove yourself every day, to stand up for principles, to overcome difficulties of any kind, and when you are a Mayor you have to serve the people who have given you their trust.

Do you know how many women work in your position?

I know many women working in my position, both in оur country and abroad, but I can’t give the exact number.

“The principle of equal opportunities for women and men is one of the fundamental pillars of democracy and it is necessary to work at all levels to protect and implement it.”

Do you think that the problem with gender inequality still exists in Bulgaria and globally?

Unfortunately, there are still latitudes where it is relevant. However, there is a positive trend that gender has long been irrelevant in many typically male or female occupations.

Do you think that a woman’s appearance and charm affect her professional success? (example: does it make communication easier?)

They probably do, but that’s not the point. Provoked by your question, I will admit that a woman, by nature, has the ability to balance and be more adaptable. Attention to detail, the ability to prioritize, to mobilize in critical moments, strong intuition combined with the absence of unnecessary fears and doubts in decision-making, the ability to communicate and social sensitivity, often give additional benefits, and help women more than their appearance.

What policies do you follow regarding encouraging diversity?

I prefer a balance, where women rights are equal to men rights.

How do you get along with your men colleagues? Do they treat you differently?

You should ask them. Personally, I don’t feel different attitude.

How do you balance your work life with your personal life? Is there any rule that you follow?

It is difficult for me to strike this important balance. Very often my personal life of a wife and a mother is at the expense of the responsibility and commitment of being Mayor 24 hours a day. I can barely steal a few days off in the summer and winter. Most weekends are working weekends, I am often in my office or I visit sites with colleagues. I take this opportunity to thank my family for their understanding, patience and fair criticism. I don’t follow any rules in order to balance. Probably the ability to successfully combine your personal and professional life is just life wisdom.
