Google’s Bard has acquired a new skill, namely the ability to help developers write and debug code in more than 20 different programming languages, PCMag reports.

“Starting now, Bard can help with programming and software development tasks, including code generation, debugging and code explanation.”

explains in a blog post Paige Bailey, Group Product Manager at Google Research.

Google Bard’s programming skills include more than 20 languages, including popular languages like C++, Go, Java, JavaScript, Python, Typescript, and even Google Sheets functions. Python code can also be exported to Google Colab without the need to copy and paste, allowing for easy code execution in a web browser.

If you don’t understand a part of the code, Bard will explain it to you, and you can ask him to look at specific parts of the code. For example, you can ask Bard to “tell me about the code in the Google/jax repo on GitHub”. And if a piece of code is too slow for your needs, just ask Bard “Can you make this code faster?” and he’ll get to work speeding it up.

According to Bailey, Bard’s ability to generate code, debug, and explain “is especially useful if you’re learning programming for the first time.” However, we should remember that Bard is still only an early experiment and, according to Google, can create inaccurate, misleading or false information while presenting it confidently.
