Recently, more and more companies are focusing on their privacy and security. WhatsApp, which is managed by Meta, is also working on its users’ privacy these days. A new privacy tool was launched by the company earlier this month. The option is limiting who gets to view  your Last Seen on the app. As we know, at that moment, the application is giving an allowance to users to share their “Last Seen” status with everyone, my contacts or nobody. Also, the company is working on another addition which is tested only with beta users. It’s about ‘My Contacts Except’ option. However, it seems that WhatsApp is hiding user’s Last Seen only for people who they haven’t chatted with before.

WABetaInfo reported that some users have noticed they can not view the Last Seen status of certain numbers. In a support email the company stated that they are trying to make it harder for people you don’t know and haven’t chatted with from seeing your last seen and online presence on WhatsApp, but this doesn’t apply for people who you know.

There are users who depend on third-party apps to track the Last Seen statuses of other people on WhatsApp. This privacy-focused step aims to make it harder for people who you don’t know or haven’t chatted with to track you in the online world. However, if you start chatting with a person whose number you haven’t save, they will be able to see your Last Seen status.
