WordPress.com is embedding artificial intelligence directly into its site-building workflow with the launch of a new AI Assistant that can edit content, adjust design styles, and generate images — all from within the editor.

Announced on the company’s blog, the feature is rolling out to Business and Commerce plan users and integrates natively into the block editor and Media Library. Instead of functioning as a standalone chatbot, the assistant works contextually within a user’s site, allowing creators to issue natural language prompts to modify pages in real time.

Users can ask the tool to “make this section feel more modern,” update site color palettes, rewrite headlines, or restructure layouts — and see those changes applied instantly. The assistant can also refine text, adjust tone, translate content, and suggest improvements without requiring external tools.

Beyond layout and writing support, WordPress.com is leaning into AI-powered visuals. The assistant includes image generation and editing capabilities directly inside the Media Library, enabling users to create new graphics or modify existing ones without leaving the platform.

The feature is opt-in and works best with block-based themes. Sites using classic themes won’t see the assistant embedded in the editor, though image-generation tools remain available through the Media Library.

With this move, WordPress.com joins a growing wave of platforms embedding AI directly into creative workflows rather than offering separate AI interfaces. By integrating the assistant where users already design and publish, the company aims to streamline the process of building and maintaining websites — particularly for small businesses and creators without dedicated design or development teams.
