Netflix has acquired InterPositive, a filmmaking technology venture founded by Ben Affleck that builds AI-powered tools designed “by and for filmmakers,” the company said in an official announcement.

InterPositive’s full team will join Netflix, and Affleck will take on a Senior Advisor role. Netflix positioned the deal as a creator-led technology investment, saying InterPositive’s mission is to apply emerging tech in ways that “protect and expand creative choice.”

Affleck said the company was formed after he saw early AI tools fall short for real production workflows, arguing that filmmaking models should preserve human judgment and be purpose-built around on-set realities. He said InterPositive created a proprietary dataset on a controlled soundstage and trained an initial model focused on visual logic and editorial consistency, with safeguards intended to keep creative decisions “in the hands of artists.”

Netflix Chief Product and Technology Officer Elizabeth Stone said the approach to AI is meant to meaningfully serve creators and members, and that InterPositive is joining based on a shared belief that innovation should “empower storytellers, not replace them.” Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria added that new tools should expand creative freedom rather than replace writers, directors, actors, and crews.
