Microsoft has announced that Windows 11 will support RAR and other archive formats like tar, 7-zip, rar, gz and others that Windows users have been waiting for for years, reports The Verge.

“We will implement a built-in support of additional archive formats, including tag, 7-zip, gar, gz and many others, using the open source browser. As a result, users will benefit from improved backup functionality in their Wіndоwѕ work environment.”

Said Panos Panay, vice president and chief product officer at Microsoft.

The Vice President and Chief Product Officer also says that the new formats will appear in a new test version of the operating system very soon.

The addition of tar, 7-zip, rar, gz and others is of great benefit to Windows 11 users. They will no longer have to install third-party applications to access these files.
