Chinese smartphone maker Realme said it has shipped more than 200 million phones since the company was founded just over five years ago, Reuters announced. Figures show it is the world’s fifth fastest smartphone maker.
According to Counterpoint Research, only four companies – Vivo, Huawei, Samsung and Apple – took less time to ship the same number of devices. So far, there are a total of 14 companies globally that have shipped over 200 million phones worldwide.
“We came into existence when there were over 700 smartphone brands in the world. We are extremely proud that we have been able to be in the world’s top 10 brands for the past five years”, said Xu Qi, Realme’s chief marketing officer.
As per Counterpoint Research, the count of phone brands exceeded 700 in 2017 but has since decreased to around 250 as of September.
Xu expressed Realme’s preparedness to enter the premium phone market with its imminent release, the Realme GT 5 Pro. This device is set to be one of the pioneering handsets equipped with Qualcomm’s latest high-end chip, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, and Sony’s innovative Lytia camera sensor.
Xiaomi (1810.HK) has recently introduced the Xiaomi 14 Pro, also powered by the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
