Cloudflare has acquired Astro, the company behind the popular open-source Astro web framework, in a move that highlights the growing convergence of frontend development and edge infrastructure. According to Cloudflare’s blog, the acquisition follows the release of Astro 6 beta, which introduced a redesigned development server aimed at improving reliability across static, server-rendered, and edge-based deployments.

Astro has gained traction among developers for its performance-focused architecture and ability to ship less JavaScript by default. By bringing Astro in-house, Cloudflare is expected to deepen integrations between the framework and its global edge network, potentially simplifying deployment workflows and improving performance for developers building modern web applications. The deal reflects a broader industry trend in which infrastructure providers are increasingly embedding developer frameworks directly into their platforms.
