Microsoft has released a new Windows App Development CLI, known as winapp, now available in public preview. According to the Windows Developer Blog, the open-source command-line tool is designed to reduce the friction of setting up and packaging Windows applications across multiple frameworks, including .NET, Electron, Rust, Dart, and C++.

The winapp CLI automates common but time-consuming tasks such as SDK installation, certificate and manifest creation, and MSIX packaging. Microsoft says the goal is to let developers focus on building features rather than configuring environments, particularly as Windows app development increasingly spans multiple languages and runtimes. The tool is available via GitHub and can be installed using package managers such as winget and npm.
