Razer announced that a new version of its gaming peripheral Razer Zephyr mask, Razer Zephyr Pro, is on its way. The forthcoming release was announced at CES 2022. A tweet by the company, says that users can remain protected with its N95-grade filters.

However, after the announcement a wave of criticism flooded the company. Razer was accused of exaggerating the amount of protection the masks offered.

N95 was not itself rated but still its product webpage not once or twice mentioned its replaceable filters as “N95-grade”. The page says that the filters are kind of “air purification filters”, saying that they are “FDA-registered and lab-tested for 99% BFE”.

However, a blog post, called “The science behind Razer Zep hyr” explains that these are not N95 certified masks.

The company specifies that the masks are not meant to be used in medical or clinical settings,  even though the FAQ section compares the devices to medical devices.

Although the mask kave already gone through different kinds of tests, still it isn’t certified by authorities such as FDA, CFC or OSHA.
